Dynamic Failure Investigation in Ultrafi ne Grained AA2219: Mechanical and Microstructural Analysis

        Amin Azimi,Gbadebo Moses Owolabi,Nikhil Kumar,Grant Warner 대한금속·재료학회 2019 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.25 No.4

In this study, the high strain rate behavior of ultrafi ne grained (UFG) AA2219 alloy processed via multi axial forging atcryogenic temperature was investigated. Room temperature forged sample was used as a reference to determine the eff ectsof signifi cant grain size refi nement on the dynamic response of the materials. The initial microstructure characterizationindicated that severe plastic deformation in the cryogenically process alloy resulted in its grain size reduction to ~ 270 nmand the second phase breakage to fi ner particles. The results of the dynamic impact tests show that the strain hardening andthermal softening are substantially less signifi cant in the UFG materials, whereas the maximum fl ow stress and the strain ratesensitivity increased. Furthermore, the grain size reduction led to the absorption of higher portion of the deformation energyand an increase in the toughness of the fabricated UFG material when compared to the conventionally forged samples. Thisimprovement is approximately 56% at a strain rate of 4000 s −1 obtained via the grain structure refi nement. Microstructureanalysis of the post-deformed samples revealed two fully transformed adiabatic shear bands (ASBs) in the coarser grainedmaterial due to intense localized strain and thermal instability during the impact tests which caused the pushing off of thesecond phases and cracks formation inside the ASBs. However, low-intensity deformed ASBs and a notable enhancementin crack initiation strength were observed by morphology and fi nal confi guration of the post-deformed UFG samples. Inaddition, no considerable hardness variations were experienced in the impacted UFG material due to the saturation of grainsize during the cryogenically forging process. In contrary to the UFG alloys, signifi cant hardness increase was observed inthe deformed coarse grained material which was associated with softening in the adjacent regions providing a zone proneto cracks initiation.

Evaluation of sHLA-G levels in serum of patients with prostate cancer identify as a potential of tumor marker

        Mohammad Hassan Heidari,Abolfazl Movafagh,Mohammad Amin Abdollahifar,Shabnam Abdi,Mohamadreza Mashhoudi Barez,Hadi Azimi,Afshin Moradi,Amin Bagheri,Matineh Heidari,Jafar Hessam Mohseni,Maryam Tadayon 대한해부학회 2017 Anatomy & Cell Biology Vol.50 No.1

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer type in men and is the second cause of death, due to cancer, in patients over 50, after lung cancer. Prostate specific antigen (PSA) is a widely used tumor marker for prostate cancer. Recently, PSA is discovered in non-prostatic cancer tissues in men and women raising doubts about its specificity for prostatic tissues. PSA exists in low serum level in healthy men and in higher levels in many prostate disorders, including prostatitis and prostate cancer. Thus, a supplementary tumor marker is needed to accurately diagnose the cancer and to observe the patient after treatment. Recently, soluble human leukocyte antigen-G (sHLA-G) has been introduced as a new tumor marker for different cancer types, including colorectal, breast, lung, and ovary. The present descriptive-experimental study was carried out including patients with malignant prostate tumor, patients with benign prostate tumor, and a group of health men as the control group, as judged by an oncologist as well as a pathologist. After sterile blood sampling, sHLA-G was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in each group. The data was then analyzed using one-way ANOVA. P≤0.05 was considered as statistically significant. The results showed that the mean of sHLA-G level was high in patients. Also, it was found that there was a significant difference in sHLA serum level between the three groups. The data revealed that sHLA-G can be a novel upplementary tumor marker in addition to PSA to diagnose prostate cancer.

Reductive removal of hexavalent chromium from aqueous solution using sepiolite-stabilized zero-valent iron nanoparticles: Process optimization and kinetic studies

        Amirhosein Ramazanpour Esfahani,Saeid Hojati,Amin Azimi,Leila Alidokht,Alireza Khataee,Meysam Farzadian 한국화학공학회 2014 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.31 No.4

We studied the optimization of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) removal from aqueous solution using thesynthesized zero-valent iron nanoparticles stabilized with sepiolite clay (S-ZVIN), under various parameters such asreaction time (min), initial solution pH and concentration of S-ZVIN (g·L−1) using response surface methodology (RSM). The kinetic study of Cr(VI) was conducted using three types of the most commonly used kinetic models including pseudozero-order, pseudo first-order, and pseudo second-order models. The rate of reduction reaction showed the best fitwith the pseudo first-order kinetic model. The process optimization results revealed a high agreement between the experimentaland the predicted data (R2=0.945, Adj-R2=0.890). The results of statistical analyses showed that reactiontime was the most impressive factor influencing the efficiency of removal process. The optimum conditions for maximumresponse (98.15%) were achieved at the initial pH of 4.7, S-ZVIN concentration of 1.3 g·L−1 and the reactiontime of 75 min.

Acute Necrotizing Encephalopathy in Adult Patients With COVID-19: A Systematic Review of Case Reports and Case Series

        Shaghayegh Karami,Fattaneh Khalaj,Houman Sotoudeh,Zohreh Tajabadi,Ramin Shahidi,Mohammad Amin Habibi,Mahsa Shirforoush Sattari,Amir Azimi,Seyed Ali Forouzannia,Romina Rafiei,Hamid Reihani,Reza Nemati 대한신경과학회 2023 Journal of Clinical Neurology Vol.19 No.6

Background and Purpose Acute necrotizing encephalopathy (ANE) is a rare neurological disorder that is often associated with viral infections. Since the emergence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), a few COVID-19-associated ANE cases have been reported. Since very little is known about ANE, the present study aimed to determine the clinical, biochemical, and radiological characteristics of affected patients. Methods A search was conducted on PubMed, Scopus, Embase, and Web of Science databases for articles published up to August 30, 2022 using relevant keywords. Case reports and series in the English language that reported ANE in adult patients with COVID-19 confirmed by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction were included in this study. Data on the demographic, clinical, laboratory, and radiological characteristics of patients were extracted and analyzed using the SPSS software (version 26). Results The study included 30 patients (18 males) with COVID-19 and ANE who were aged 49.87±18.68 years (mean±standard deviation). Fever was the most-prevalent symptom at presentation (66.7%). Elevated C-reactive protein was observed in the laboratory assessments of 13 patients. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging were the most-common radiological modalities used for brain assessments. The most commonly prescribed medications were methylprednisolone (30%) and remdesivir (26.7%). Sixteen patients died prior to discharge. Conclusions The diagnosis of COVID-19-associated ANE requires a thorough knowledge of the disease. Since the clinical presentations of ANE are neither sensitive nor specific, further laboratory and brain radiological evaluations will be needed to confirm the diagnosis. The suspicion of ANE should be raised among patients with COVID-19 who present with progressive neurological symptoms.
