Genetic Markers for Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis on Chromosome 19p13.3 among Saudi Arabian Girls

        Abdallah Ahmad Al-Othman,Mir Sadat-Ali,Ahmed Sh. Amer,Dakheel A. Al-Dakheel 대한척추외과학회 2017 Asian Spine Journal Vol.11 No.2

Study Design: Prospective case-controlled study. Purpose: This study aimed to assess genetic influence in Saudi Arabian children with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). Overview of Literature: The genetic locus linked to chromosome 19p for idiopathic scoliosis has been described. A pilot study conducted at King Fahd Hospital of the University, Al-Khobar showed that three microsatellite markers (D19S216, D19S894, and DS1034) of chromosome 19p13.3 were significant in Saudi Arabian females compared with healthy subjects. Methods: A total of 100 unrelated Saudi Arabian girls treated for AIS, their parents, healthy siblings, and healthy subjects were recruited for genetic analysis of markers on chromosome 19p13.3. After informed consent was obtained from their parents, blood samples were collected and parametric and nonparametric linkage analyses were performed using GENEHUNTER ver. 2.1. Multipoint linkage analysis was used to specify an autosomal dominant trait with a gene frequency of 0.01 and an estimated penetrance of 80% at the genotypic and allelic levels. Results: Five hundred blood samples were collected and analyzed for microsatellite markers (D19S216, D19S894, and DS1034) of chromosome 19p13.3. Comparison among patients, family members, and healthy subjects revealed no significant association between markers and scoliosis at the genotypic level: D19S216 (p =0.21), D19S894 (p =0.37), and DS1034 (p =0.25). However, at the allelic level, a statistically significant association was observed for marker DS1034 (p =0.008), and marker D19S216 showed significance between fathers and patients (p <0.001) compared with patients and mothers. The other two markers, D19S216 (p =0.25) and D19S894 (p =0.17), showed no significant association between patients and mothers. Conclusions: At the allelic level, marker DS1034 was significantly associated with AIS patients and their fathers. This allelic marker on chromosome 19p13.3 appears to be important in AIS etiology.

      • Neural Network-Based Ranging with LTE Channel Impulse Response for Localization in Indoor Environments

        Halim Lee,Ali A. Abdallah,Jongmin Park,Jiwon Seo,Zaher M. Kassas 제어로봇시스템학회 2020 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2020 No.10

A neural network (NN)-based approach for indoor localization via cellular long-term evolution (LTE) signals is proposed. The approach estimates, from the channel impulse response (CIR), the range between an LTE eNodeB and a receiver. A software-defined radio (SDR) extracts the CIR, which is fed to a long short-term memory model (LSTM) recurrent neural network (RNN) to estimate the range. Experimental results are presented comparing the proposed approach against a baseline RNN without LSTM. The results show a receiver navigating for 100 m in an indoor environment, while receiving signals from one LTE eNodeB. The ranging root-mean squared error (RMSE) and ranging maximum error along the receiver’s trajectory were reduced from 13.11 m and 55.68 m, respectively, in the baseline RNN to 9.02 m and 27.40 m, respectively, with the proposed RNN-LSTM.

Phytochemical and Biological Investigation of Spergularia marina (L.) Griseb. Growing in Egypt

        Omnia Gamal El-Dien,Eman Shawky,Amal H. Aly,Rokia M. Abdallah,Nabil A. Abdel-Salam 한국생약학회 2014 Natural Product Sciences Vol.20 No.3

A phytochemical investigation of Spergularia marina (L.) Griseb. growing in Egypt, has been carried out, which resulted in the isolation of seven compounds from the different extracts of the plant namely; b-sitosterol glucoside, tricin (1) dihydroferulic acid (2), vanillic acid (3), 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (4), uracil (5) and 8-hydroxy cuminoic acid (6) Structure elucidation of the isolated compounds was carried out using different spectroscopic techniques. This is the first report for the isolation of these compounds from genus Spergularia. Furthermore, 8-Hydroxy cuminoic acid and uracil were isolated for the first time from family Caryophyllaceae. The chemical composition of the volatile components present in the petroleum ether extract of Spergularia marina (L.) Griseb. using combined gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) is reported here for the first time. Of the 97 components present, 59 were identified including three sulfur containing compounds which represented about 1.8% of the volatiles of the total petroleum ether extract. This prompted us to study and report its possible antimicrobial activity. In addition, the antibacterial and antifungal screening of different extracts of Spergularia marina (L.) Griseb. as well as some isolates have been performed using agar diffusion method.

      • Settlement of velocity dissemination with fluid parameters for the configuration of stretching cylinder

        Mudassar Jalil,Waheed Iqbal,Muzamal Hussain,Mohamed A. Khadimallah,Adil Alshoaibi,Jamel Baili,Khaled Mohamed Khedher,Elimam Abdallah Ali,Abdelouahed Tounsi 국제구조공학회 2022 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.42 No.3

This investigation in fluid mechanics surrounds around the variety of flow problems for different fluids along the stretching cylinder. Numerical procedure is carried out for the obtained resultant equations by Keller-Box technique. Numerical study of laminar, steady, viscous and incompressible two dimensional boundary layer flow of effects of suction and blowing on boundary layer slip flow of Casson fluid along permeable exponentially stretching cylinder has been carried out in the present draft. physical parameters i.e., Nusselt number and skin friction coefficient, suction parameter and the local Reynold number are investigated on velocity profile and elaborated through proper graphs and table.
