Microstructural Characterization of SPD Processed Materials

The results of a detailed microstructural characterization of bulk SPD processed nanostructured materials, and their interpretations obtained by application of the modern techniques of structural analysis are presented. It is shown that the application of advanced X-ray methods as well as TEM investigations results in evaluation of rather comprehensive information on the microstructure of SPD materials. This information includes values of the crystal lattice parameter, coherently scattering domain size, elastic microdistortions, atomic displacements, crystallographic texture, etc.

<P>ABSTRACT</P><P>Plastic anisotropy may have a significant effect on the limit load of structures. The present paper shows its effect on the limit load of well-undermatched middle cracked tension specimens assuming that the base material is elastic and the weld material obeys Hill's quadratic orthotropic yield criterion in rigid-perfect plasticity. The solution is based on a kinematically admissible velocity field, which is compatible with a stress field satisfying the equilibrium equations and the yield criterion in the plastic zone. The velocity field is singular in the vicinity of the bi-material interface, which is typical for isotropic materials.</P>

Existing plane stress solutions for thin plates and disks have shown several qualitative features which are difficult to handle with the use of commercial numerical codes (non-existence of solutions, singular solutions, rapid growth of the plastic zone with a loading parameter). In order to understand the effect of temperature and pressure-dependency of the yield criterion on some of such features as well as on the distribution of residual stresses and strains, a semi-analytic solution for a thin hollow disk fixed to a rigid container and subject to thermal loading and subsequent unloading is derived. The material model is elastic-perfectly/plastic. The Drucker-Prager pressure-dependent yield criterion and the equation of incompressibity for plastic strains are adopted. The distribution of residual stresses and strains is illustrated for a wide range of the parameter which controls pressure-dependency of the yield criterion.
Kinematics of the Nonsteady Axi-symmetric Ideal Plastic Flow Process

A nonsteady axi-symmetric ideal flow solution is obtained here. It is based on the rigid perfect-plastic constitutive law with the Tresca yield condition and its associated flow rule. The process is to deform a circular solid disk into a spherical shell of prescribed geometry. It is assumed that there are no rigid zones and friction stresses. The solution obtained provides the distribution of kinematic variables and involves one undetermined function of the time. This function can be in general found by superimposing an optimality criterion.

The article analyzes the genre of the questionnaire and the answers to them in the press system of the early 20th century on a broad source study material. The questionnaire was considered as a method of sociological research, followed by the appearance of surveys on various topics. The author of the article considers examples of polls, the recipients of which were politicians, the diplomatic corps, military, members of the State Council and State Duma, philosophers, scientists, lawyers, industrialists and financiers. These answers are compared with the autobiographies of writers from F. F. Fidler’s book “The First Literary Steps: Autobiographies of Contemporary Russian Writers” (M., 1911. 268 pp.), which is written in the form of answers to questions from the compiler of the book. The article gives an analysis of the multifaceted nature of the answers to the questionnaires of Russian writers of the early 20th century. The questionnaires of the leading St. Petersburg mass publication, the newspaper “Birzhevye Vedomosti”, are listed on the pages of which, and in the appendices to this edition (“Novaya illyustratsiya”, “Ogonek”, “Novoe slovo”), this phenomenon was given an important place. In the questionnaires of these newspapers participated all the famous literary men of the era: A. Blok, Vyach. Ivanov, V. Y. Bryusov, L. Andreev, Z. N. Gippius, as well as numerous poets and novelists of the second and third series. It is established in the work that figurative answers of writers in the periodicals of the beginning of the 20th century cease to be an instrument of sociological research. The answers to the polls of mass editions in a number of cases are small stories, polemical and analytical articles, anecdotes, travel agents, etc. The article reviews the responses of A. M. Remizov to the questionnaires of the “Birzhevye Vedomosti” and “Ogonyok”. Such capacious answers are today the most important sources of information that allow them to draw specific biographical facts from them, and also to compare them with certain artistic facts plans. The author of the work, analyzing the nature of Remizov's answers to the questionnaires in the “Birzhevye Vedomosti” and “Ogonek” comes to the conclusion about the artistic nature of the writer's answers. In fact, answering the template questions, in a number of cases the writer creates miniatures similar to those that Remizov called «curls». Some of these texts later became part of his collage novels, some were included in the book “Krashenyye rylá. Teatr i kniga”.

This work demonstrates and analyzes the experimental results of the crystallographic texture formation processes in pure metals with a different type of crystal lattice, which were subjected to severe plastic deformation (SPD) applying various techniques such as high pressure torsion (HPT) and equal-channel angular pressing (ECAP).
