Serological prevalence of brucellosis of cattle in selected dairy farms in Bangladesh

This study was conducted to investigate the status of brucellosis in dairy cattle from five selected dairy farms in the Mohammadpur Beribadh area of Bangladesh. A cross-sectional study was carried out from October 2010 to March 2011 in which a total of 334 serum samples from cattle in five herds were screened by the Rose-Bengal plate-agglutination test (RBPT) and the positives were confirmed using an indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (I-ELISA). A structured questionnaire was used to collect epidemiological information describing the animals. Overall, 4.20% of the animals were RBPT positive, while subsequent confirmatory tests with I-ELISA revealed that the overall animal-level prevalence derived from the samples was 1.20%. Additionally, the prevalence was relatively higher in females than in males. A significant association was found between abortion, age of the animals, and the occurrence of brucellosis (p < 0.05). Considering the overall low prevalence of brucellosis in the selected farms in the present study, a brucellosis eradication program for dairy farms using a test-and-slaughter policy would be possible.

Rice is the most important food crop (more than 3 billion people globally). Submergence is the third most important abiotic stress (11 % of rice growing areas). The study findings indicated that, overall anaerobic germination (AG) was significant, very high 83%. AG tolerance is associated with faster germination and faster elongation of coleoptiles. About 52% of NK rice varieties showed the fastest germination {57 varieties (28%) exhibit rapid coleoptile elongation more than checks - 22 cm} however No significant difference. About 91 varieties (45%) AG showed 100% survival rate (equal to IR64-AG1). About 48 varieties (24%) had higher seedling height of 29 cm (after desubmergence) No significant difference. Submergence tolerant amongst NK rice varieties had negative correlation: very low (4.7%). NK had highest survival mean, only five (5 out of 202) varieties showed the tolerance, and R103 significantly appeared on all three replications The study aims to elucidate morphological analysis of anaerobic and Submergence tolerance traits of 210 North Korean rice genotypes and to develop mega varieties with AG 1 and Sub1 introgression that are tolerant to submergence.
The Impact of Microfinance on Households' Socioeconomic Performance: A Proposed Mediation Model

Economic deprivation of households remains a significant economic issue in the world. Researchers have shown great concern in identifying crucial factors to enhance poor households' socio-economic performance. Therefore, this paper aims to develop a new conceptual framework to investigate the influence of different microfinance services on households' socioeconomic performance using moderated mediation analysis of various crucial factors. Focus-group interviews with managements of the microfinance institution, i.e. Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM), and a systematic literature review were conducted for this purpose, and a new framework for the future study has been developed. The result from focus-group interviews and systematic literature review propose microfinance financial services, training programs, and business coaching as independent factors, whereas household socioeconomic performance as a dependent factor in the proposed model. Specifically, this study provides the direction to scholars to empirically test the direct relationship between financial services and household socioeconomic performance and the indirect relationship between training programs, business coaching, and household socioeconomic performance. Further, microfinance institutions' service efficiency is also included as a moderator that can strengthen microfinance services' effectiveness. The study also provides useful implications for policymakers, financial institutions, households, micro-enterprises, and researchers to better understand microfinance interventions and household economic mechanisms.

This article deals with implementation of a high-order finite difference scheme for numerical solution of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations on curvilinear grids. The numerical scheme is based on pseudo-compressibility approach. A fifth-order upwind compact scheme is used to approximate the inviscid fluxes while the discretization of metric and viscous terms is accomplished using sixth-order central compact scheme. An implicit Euler method is used for discretization of the pseudo-time derivative to obtain the steady-state solution. The resulting block tridiagonal matrix system is solved by approximate factorization based alternating direction implicit scheme (AF-ADI) which consists of an alternate sweep in each direction for every pseudo-time step. The convergence and efficiency of the method are evaluated by solving some 2D benchmark problems. Finally, computed results are compared with numerical results in the literature and a good agreement is observed.

<P>In this paper, we focused on building a universal haptic texture models library and automatic assignment of haptic texture models to any given surface from the library based on image features. It is shown that a relationship exists between perceived haptic texture and its image features, and this relationship is effectively used for automatic haptic texture model assignment. An image feature space and a perceptual haptic texture space are defined, and the correlation between the two spaces is found. A haptic texture library was built, using 84 real life textured surfaces, by training a multi-class support vector machine with radial basis function kernel. The perceptual space was classified into perceptually similar clusters using K-means. Haptic texture models were assigned to new surfaces in a two step process; classification into a perceptually similar group using the trained multi-class support vector machine, and finding a unique match from within the group using binarized statistical image features. The system was evaluated using 21 new real life texture surfaces and an accuracy of 71.4 percent was achieved in assigning haptic models to these surfaces.</P>

Leguminous plants include many of the most important food crops and are also cultivated for forage, used as a rich fiber source, and are important in the manufacture of pharmaceutical compounds. Their ability to biologically fix atmospheric nitrogen enhances soil fertility. Beyond conventional propagation methods, modern in vitro technology offers new means for propagating these plants. Significant progress has been achieved in somatic embryogenesis and embryo rescue, despite legumes’ notorious recalcitrance to transformation and regeneration of legumes. The establishment of stable and reproducible regeneration protocols has resulted in commercially successful propagation of some legume species. Still, regeneration protocols for many other legumes have not been successful, primarily due to poor in vitro rooting during regeneration. This review addresses the factors constraining rooting, describes alternative methods to promote in vitro rooting, and provides a summary of in vitro rooting studies performed across a large number of leguminous species.

The industry has rapidly growth and energy supply technology advanced are become main factor which to contribute of the harmonic losses. This problem is one aspect that may affect the capability of the transmission line and also to the efficiency of electricity. This paper proposes a new scheme to allocate the cost pertaining to transmission loss due to harmonics. The proposed method, called as Generalized Harmonic Distribution Factor, uses the principle of proportional sharing method to allocate the losses among the transmission users especially for industry consumers. The IEEE 14- and 30 bus test system is used to compare the proposed method with existing method. The results showed that the proposed method provided a scheme better in allocating the cost of transmission loss, which could encourage the users to minimize the losses.
