비블리오드라마(Bibliodrama): 새로운 유형의 치유 성경공부

`성서극치료`라고 불리우는 비블리오드라마는 성경의 이야기를 소그룹 및 중형 집단에서 드라마의 형태로 체험하는 새로운 유형의 성경공부이다. 대부분의 성서연구가 역사비평학의 입장에서 성서의 내용을 `머리`로 분석하고 의미를 밝히는 방식을 취하고 있는 반면에 비블리오드라마는 성서의 이야기에 `몸`으로 직접 뛰어들어 그 이야기속 인물들의 심정을 직접 경험하고 그 이야기 속에서 자신의 삶을 새롭게 조명하여 통찰력을 얻는다. 이 글은 비블리오드라마의 형성과 발전의 기원이라고 할 수 있는 유대교 미드라쉬 전통의 성서해석에 대한 철학적 배경과 의미를 밝히고, 현대의 드라마 치유와 더불어 발전하게 된 비블리오드라마의 구체적 진행과정을 소개하여 집단 상담을 겸한 치유적 성경공부의 대안을 제시하고 있다.

사이코드라마의 잉여현실과 종교적 은유: 단 브라우닝의 수정된 상관관계론에 따른 심리치료와 종교의 대화

The purpose of this study is to discover the interdisciplinary dialogue between theology and modern psychotherapy in the use of psychodrama technique, “surplus reality”. Searching for a method for this task, the “Revised Critical Correlation” by Don Browning was carefully applied to the examination of general aspects in modern psychotherapy, and Browning’s particular notion of “metaphor of ultimacy” was used as a criterion for endorsing some religious functions in psychodrama. As a result, this study discovers such factors as freedom, self–expansion, reciprocity, and self–recovery appearing strong in the experience of surplus reality, and confirms the necessity of adopting “the metaphor of ultimacy” for effectiveness in psychotherapy just as D. Browning suggested. Certainly, the technique of “surplus reality” in drama therapy, as this study concludes, makes a good instrument to bridge the gap between religious wisdom and modern psychotherapy. 본 연구의 목적은 사이코드라마의 심리치료 기법인 잉여현실(surplus reality)이 암묵적으로 포함하고 있는 종교적 치유의 기능들을 살피어 실천신학자 단 브라우닝(Don S. Browning)이 시도한 ‘신학과 현대 심리학의 대화’ 가능성을 찾는 데 있다. 이를 위해 브라우닝의 “수정된 비판적 상관관계론”(The revised critical correlation)의 방법론을 적용하여 사이코드라마의 치유과정을 살피었으며 특별히 브라우닝이 제안한 “궁극에의 은유”(the metaphor of ultimacy), 즉 자유와 초월, 상호관계성과 책임 그리고 자기의 회복과 같은 구성개념들이 잉여현실 기법에서 어떻게 나타나는지 밝히기 위하여 해당 개념들의 해석과 치료 사례를 분석하였다. 연구 결과 사이코드라마의 잉여현실 기법은 종교적 치유와 유사한 과정과 효과를 보이며 “궁극에의 은유”의 여러 구성요소도 효과적으로 작용하고 있음을 보였다. 이 연구는 인간의 치유를 위해선 현대 심리치료기법들이 필연적으로 “궁극에의 은유”를 수용해야 한다는 브라우닝의 주장을 확인해 주며, 아울러 사이코드라마의 잉여현실 기법이 야말로 종교의 지혜와 심리치료가 만나 상호 보완의 길을 찾게 하는 유용한 도구가 될 수 있음을 주장한다.

The purpose of this study is to explore the understanding of John Wesley on the Holy Communion from the perspective of psychodrama. John Wesley‘s evangelism puts emphasis on not only the Word, but also on the Sacrament, as he considers it an essential, ’the means of grace,‘ which God allows us to enjoy in our spiritual journey. I examined the characteristics of the holistic salvation in Wesley's understanding through Moreno’s empirical approach using psychodrama, in which he adopts the method of enactment in therapy through dramatizing the stories of people. In particular, Psychodrama's ‘surplus reality’ treatment technique makes it possible to discover that it parallels the benefits and creative experiences of those who participate in the ritual of the Holy Communion. It is so good to discover that many of the great impacts of depth psychology are actually embedded in the views of John Wesley on the Holy Communion, as they enables this mutual constructive dialogue between Christianity and depth psychology. 이 연구의 목적은 John Wesley가 보여준 성만찬 의례의 통전적 복음전파의 특징을 심층심리학적으로 분석하고, 성만찬의 의례가 주는 유익과 현대 심리치료가 공유하는 내용을 밝히는 데 있다. 이를 위해 Wesley가 강조한 은혜의 ’외적이고 가시적인 수단‘으로서의 성만찬에 담긴 신학적 입장을 정리하고, 또한 성만찬을 직접 언급한 바 있는 Freud, Jung, 그리고 Turner의 심층심리학적 견해를 살피어 각각 불안 해소의 방어기제, 원형의 상징과 신비적 경험, 그리고 창조적인 삶을 위한 통과의례로써 성만찬의 의미를 정리하여 상호비판적 상관관계론의 방법으로 정리하였다. 그리고 Moreno의 사이코드라마의 통합적 치유 방법론을 주목하여 성만찬 참예자들이 경험하는 불안의 해소, 무의식과 의식의 대화, 그리고 거룩한 삶으로의 통과의례와 같은 심층심리학적 요소들이 ’잉여현실‘(surplus reality) 기법에서 모두 통전적으로 수용 통합되는 경험이 가능함을 밝히었다. Wesley가 ‘말씀'과 ‘의례'를 동시에 강조하면서 보여준 균형적인 복음전도의 사역이야말로 기독교의 복음이 ‘머리'만이 아닌 온 ‘몸'으로 체험되어야 할 전인적 구원을 의미하며, 성찬의례는 바로 이를 위한 은혜의 수단으로써 우리에게 새롭고 창조적인 경험을 제공하는 구원의 수단이요, 도구가 됨을 다시금 깨닫게 한다. 이 연구를 통해 신앙행위와 심리적 치유방법론들이 상호비판적 대화를 통해 상호이해와 교류의 지평을 열어갈 수 있음을 기대한다.

기도와 신비적 체험에 대한 심층심리학적 이해

This paper endeavors to explore the common ground that religious practices and psychotherapy share for inner healing in the human mind. For an establishment of a research perspective on psychology of religion, it particularly surveys the theories of depth psychology on the act of prayer and mystical experience. Selected tools are the theories of psychoanalytic object-relations and the technique of role playing in psychodrama, which are distinguished from the theological approach that necessarily includes confession on certain beliefs and doctrines. First, object-relations theories demonstrate how an individual comes to prayer. Moved by unearthed inner motives, the individual proceeds to prayer with projection of his or her feeling towards the object (God or the recipient of the prayer) and have it internalized in his or her inner mind. Secondly, through drama therapy, we witness how the individual encounters the internalized object in oneself and resolves the conflicting issues of life through role playing in drama therapy. The praying individual experiences the emotional catharsis and reaches the transformation of the inner world as exemplified in the role playing technique of surplus reality. Conclusively, understanding depth psychology and its appreciation of prayer and mystical experience allow us to discover the common ground where religious practices and psychotherapy are reconciled in a mutual dialogue in hopes of continuing work of cooperation for healing in the human mind. 이 논문의 목적은 종교심리학의 주요 연구분야 중의 하나인 기도와 신비적체험에 대한 심층심리학적인 이해를 통해 종교행위와 심리치료가 공유하는 인간 내면세계 치유의 동기와 과정을 밝히는데 있다. 연구의 방법론으로 연구자는 기도와 신비적 체험에 대한 종전의 신학적 입장을 떠나서 특정 신앙적 가치관이나 교리와 믿음의 고백을 근간으로 하지 않는 정신분석적 대상관계론과 사이코드라마의 이론들이 제시하는 기도의 동기와 과정 그리고 신비적 경험에 대한 문헌들을 살피었다. 대상관계론적 이론들은 기도자로 하여금 기도의 자리로 오게 하는 인간 내면의 동기를 밝히어 기도자의 내면적 욕구의 결핍이 투영(projection)으로 이어지는 정신적 역동과 이에 따른 기도 대상의 내면화(internaliza -tion) 과정을 설명한다. 사이코드라마로 시작된 드라마치료의 경우에는 기도의 실제적 행위 속에서 기도자가 자신안의 내면화된 대상과 만나 어떻게 감정의 정화를 경험하며 내면적 변형(transformation)에 도달하는지 그 신비적 경험을 ‘잉여현실’(surplus reality)의 이론에 입각하여 설명한다. 결론적으로 종교적 행위와 심리치료 영역이 서로 공유하는 기능이 크다는 사실과 인간 마음의 치료라는 공통의 과제를 향하여 상호 교류와 대화 그리고 보완책들을 나눌 수 있는 가능성의 지대함을 다시한 번 확인하게 된다.

통합적 기독상담모형으로서 비블리오드라마

현 기독(목회) 상담계는 일반상담의 수용여부를 넘어서서 기독상담이 오히려 신앙과 상담을 조화롭게 통합해야하는 독특한 상담모형을 필요로 하고 있다. 이 논문의 목적은 현재 성서와 현대심리치료 특별히 사이코드라가 만나 기독교의 정체성을 갖춘 집단상담 비블리오드라마를 통해 이 시대에 필요한 기독상담 모형을 발견하는데 있다. 이를 위해 먼저 그동안 신학계에서 일반학문과의 관계성 정립을 위해 논의해온 내용들을 살피었다. 20세기, 인간의 실존에 대한 많은 물음이 대두됨에 따라 신학은 일반사회와 문화에 준비된 답을 제시 해야할 필요성이 대두되었고 이를 직시한 폴 틸리히는 그의 상관관계론을 통하여 신학과 문화의 대화 지평을 열었다. 이후 다원화된 사회에서 신학의 우월성을 더이상 주장하기 어려운 현실 가운데 데이빗 트레이시는 상호 비판적 상호대화를 주장하여 수정된 상관관계론을 제시한다. 이러한 논의들은 실천신학자였던 단 브라우닝에 이르러 신학과 현대심리학의 대화로 이어져 신학과 현대심리학이 공유하고 있는 자원들을 활용하는 상호 비판적 대화의 장을 열어 신앙과 상담의 통합적 과제를 본격적으로 요구되는 시대를 알리었다. 또한 신학과 심리학의 대화는 목회상담의 선구자 안톤 보이즌의 “살아있는 인간문서” 촉구를 통해 20C초반 에 시작된 임상목회교육로부터 이미 구체화된 요구 과제였음을 발견한다. 이제 이와 같은 논의들이 촉구한 과제들을 만족시키며 구체적으로 기독상담계에서 이미 활용되고 있는 상담모형으로 비블리오드라마의 발전은 그 통합적 상담모형의 발견과 성장의 과정을 여실히 보여준다. 바로 ‘몸’을 활용하여 전인적으로 성서이해의 접근을 시도했던 고대 미드라쉬 방법론과 현대 드라마치료의 액션메소드가 어떻게 만나 공통점을 찾으며 비블리오드라마는 통합적 상담모형의 발전을 거듭해 온 것이다. 비블리오드라마는 신앙과 집단상담의 통합적 효과들과 특징들을 전인적 치유방법론, 놀이와 몰입을 통한 자발성, 역할확대와 창의성의 확장 그리고 성서가 주는 인간 삶을 위한 근원적이고 보편적인 치유의 힘을 통합적 상담모형의 특색을 제공한다. This paper endeavors to define Bibliodrama as the modality of integrative Christian counseling, which combines Christian counseling with modern group counseling theories and techniques. The concern of responding to the demands for sufficient, practical knowledge and techniques of secular counseling has been a long-term debate within the field of Christian Counseling. In response to this interest, this paper describes the historical development of the dialogue between theology and human sciences and searches for an integrative modality that reconciles faith and counseling techniques into an effective tool for caring for the religious people with supplementary assistance from secular counseling. It introduces Bibliodrama as a newly developed group counseling technique of which origin traces back to the ancient Judaic movement of Midrash that is currently being used with the adoption of drama therapy and action methods by Jacob Levy Moreno. This paper further identifies the integrating elements of Bibliodrama with such effects as that of experiential healing methods, power of spontaneity in playful approach to the participants, and creativity aroused through role rehearsal and expansion. And most of all, the Bible and its stories become the prominent source for helping people experience healing in the integrative methods of group counseling.
