외국인 여행자를 고려한 게스트하우스 커뮤니티공간의 특성

        안상녕 ( Xiangning Yan ),황연숙 ( Yeonsook Hwang ) 한국공간디자인학회 2018 한국공간디자인학회논문집 Vol.13 No.5

(Background and Purpose) As the number of foreign tourists visiting South Korea continues to grow, travelers are shown to prefer cultural experiences through accommodation during travel. Guesthouses, which are more likely to offer cultural experiences among multiple types of accommodation, can easily provide local travel information, especially to visitors who spend time in community spaces during their stay. Indeed, guesthouses can be spaces for the exchange of cultural and travel-related information. Based on the analysis of communication spaces in guesthouses, this study explored the best space plan to encourage foreign tourists to visit Korea. (Method) This study investigated nine guesthouses in in Jung-gu, Jongno-gu, and Mapo-gu, Seoul, as cases. The study carried out field investigation to investigate the guesthouses’ concept and layout type, focusing on spatial characteristics. (Results) The characteristics of guesthouse communication spaces can be divided into four: Interaction Property, Regional Culture, Openness, and Sensibility. First, in terms of interaction property, the space layout and furniture arrangement enabled the visitors to meet and interact, but because the space tended to be small and guests’ stay time, not long, they could not engage in meaningful communication. Second, from perspective of regional culture, there were cases that provided experiential cultural projects. In contrast, there were also cases that did not take regional culture into account, such as in the performance of projects and the elements of regional representative design. Third, regarding openness, to make it easier for visitors to move freely, guesthouses offered effective activity routes and open spaces, but they did not consider privacy aspects, resulting in feelings of inconvenience among tourists. Fourth, on sensibility, most guesthouses configured the colors, topping materials, and decorative elements in every corner of the spaces to provide visual enjoyment to visitors. (Conclusions) The guesthouse is not only an accommodation for tourists also a space for information exchange and cultural experience. Therefore, to ensure adequate space for natural communication among travelers, it is important to consider the regional characteristics and provide a differentiating identity. Moreover, although the structure of spaces for tourists may allow for free movement, privacy variables should be considered, and factors that have a positive image of South Korea during their stay should be taken into account. According to the design policy of guesthouse communication space, research should be carried out on the specific planning direction that can be used in future.

Vol.16 No.7

(Background and Purpose) As the average life expectancy increases due to economic growth and the development of medical technology, the elderly population is increasing. Although this study designates and implements protection zones for the elderly to reduce walking accidents, the number of elderly walking accidents is steadily increasing. In this study, with the aim of improving the walking environment suitable for the elderly in order to reduce pedestrian accidents, the objective of this study was to suggest a direction for improvement of problems through theoretical considerations of the elements of the walking environment and the walking environment for the elderly and field surveys of the elderly protection area. In this study, the elements of the walking environment are derived through previous studies related to the walking environment and walking for the elderly. Based on the contents considered through previous studies, a checklist of walking elements in the elderly protection area is derived, and based on this, the elderly protection area is surveyed, analyzed, and conclusions are drawn. (Method) In this study, the elements of the walking environment are derived through previous studies related to the walking environment and walking for the elderly. Based on the contents considered through previous studies, a checklist of walking elements in the elderly protection area is derived, and based on this, the elderly protection area is surveyed, analyzed, and conclusions are drawn. (Results) As a result of evaluating the six elderly protection areas, the surrounding exterior was the best, followed by sidewalk environment, street facilities, and road environment. The installation of sidewalk benches for street facilities was insufficient. Since the installation of benches serves to provide the elderly with a rest while walking, it will be necessary to provide benches on the sidewalk or to install facilities where they can sit on the sidewalk. In the case of road environment, the installation of speed cameras were insufficient. Speeding vehicles are fatal to pedestrians and can lead to pedestrian accidents. Therefore, speed reduction facilities and speed cameras should be installed. (Conclusions) In the past, several studies related to walking environment for the elderly have been conducted, but there are few studies that evaluated the walking environment focused on the elderly protection area. This study can be expected that it will be used as a useful basic data when implementing the elderly protection zone. Therefore, in future studies, it is necessary to evaluate the walking environment by increasing the number of case subjects, and it is possible to contribute to creating a better environment for the elderly protection area by supplementing the evaluation method by directly interviewing the elderly walking in the elderly protection environment.

Vol.14 No.4

(Background and Purpose) Recently, with the emergence of new media in which various media are fused, the space utilizing fusion media emerging in the exhibition space. Along with the development of digital technology, the exhibition space creates a new environment through integration and exchange with various media. New media, in particular, encourage people’s curiosity and interest, maximize their sense of space, and encourage them to experience various activities. Thus the purpose of this study is to analyze the experiential characteristics of new media in exhibition space, understand the development trend of new media using exhibition space, and provide basic data about future exhibition space. (Method) The study was carried out in five media museums newly opened in Seoul since 2010. First, the concept and type of new media and the experiential characteristics of exhibition space were summarized through a theoretical review; a precedent study was then conducted to provide an analytic framework for the experiential characteristics of exhibition space. Finally, the experiential characteristics of the exhibition space using new media were analyzed according to the expressiveness of sensory stimuli, interactivity, diversity, and complexity derived from the analytic elements. (Results) The characteristics of the museum exhibition space were classified according into four: sensory stimulation, interaction, diversity, and complexity. The most frequently used expressive traits were sensory stimulation with interactions. In most cases, 3D stereoscopic animations stimulate people’s sight, hearing, and tactile sense of light, color, graphics, sound, 3D projection, video images, LED displays, 2D graphics, and text. Diversity is the lowest among the experiential characteristics of exhibition space using new media. In all cases, a variety of new media technologies were used, such as color, lighting, graphics, animation, and sound. However, most exhibitions do not provide visitors with a variety of experience circles and exhibitions on a variety of topics, so they cannot help. (Conclusions) The use of new media in most museum exhibits has not yet reached completion, and there is a much simpler one-sided approach than interactive methods. Therefore, in the future, we will find a way to strengthen the interaction between space and spectators in museums development. . The modern exhibition space will be able to host more diverse experiences in the exhibition space by diversifying the forms of space available through a combination of art and technology. It is anticipated that this will be combined with the development of new media technology, leading to a new exhibition space.

Vol.14 No.3

(Background and Purpose) In recent years, exhibit spaces have focused on spectators who can extend the boundaries of space beyond the physical concept space through interaction between the works and spectators. This type of display especially encourages viewers to directly intervene in the works through the human body, that is, the perception element, centered on the installation and influenced by Merleau-Ponty's theory of phenomenological space. This provides various experiential possibilities. This concept is not limited to the physical space of the existing white cube, but it includes a combination of natural non-material elements and scientific technologies to create an exhibition in which the boundaries of space are blurred. The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of spatial perception in interaction with visitors by selecting exhibition works of representative artists based on Merleau-Ponty's phenomenology. In addition, through this research, we attempt to grasp the spatial perception factor of a phenomenological presentation of the exhibition space. (Method) First, theoretical review enables an understanding of Merleau-Ponty's phenomenological space concept and spatial perception factors. Then, we analyze the elements of exhibition presentations and spatial perception that have appeared in the works of installation artists using previous research and constructing the framework of analysis according to the commonly recognized spatial perception elements of space, time, and the physical senses. Using this framework of analysis, the spatial expression method, spatial component, and viewing method according to spatial perception elements were analyzed. Finally, the common points and differences between spatial perception elements in three artists' works were analyzed and conclusions were drawn. (Results) As a result of this analysis, we concluded that all the works of the three artists were directly involved in the work of the space, which enhanced the viewers’ experience of the space through interaction. In particular, using mainly non-material elements, an environment is created in which the work itself plays a role as space, and the boundaries of space are obscured to maximize the experience of phenomenological space through perception. Such an exhibition space induces new experiences through sensations and the experience of transcendental and amusing spaces that transcend the physical element. However, there were differences among the artists in the criteria and the methods used to achieve this effect. This indicates that the artists’ intentions were different from phenomenological perception and the experience of the space. (Conclusions) In the future, it will be possible to produce a variety of experiential exhibition forms through interaction between spectators and objects from a phenomenological point of view that transcends the physical limitations of the existing exhibition spaces and artist-oriented works. This suggests that in the future, exhibition spaces can present the space paradigm in a way that adds new value through perception.
