Taxi drivers, who have suffered from oversupply problem, are arguing that taxi should be classified into mass transportation to get government subsidies. To uproot the business’ problem, the number of taxies should be remarkably cut as soon as possible. However, this option is not feasible. In reality, it is feasible and desirable that the government uses several policy instruments to enhance net profits of taxi drivers, to calm social unrest down, and to enhance the quality of taxi service. In this context, this study analyzed fourteen factors that may affect taxi drivers’ net profits in Seoul, Siheung, and Namyangju. It conducted multiple regression analyses by the fourteen variables. As a result, it finds that fuel costs, Call Van, and insurance costs significantly affect taxi drivers’ net profits. Based on these findings, it is necessary that the government should increase the support to cover the drivers’ fuel and insurance costs and crack illegal Call Van operations down.
