The environmental conditions for the water resources in the province of Chungnam have changed due to its recent rapid development. It is, therefore, necessary to survey the characteristics of the water resources and the environments including the precipitation and the river discharge. In the present study, the change of the characteristics of the water resources are investigated by analysing the precipitation and discharge for the past 10 years in the Kum river and Sapgyo river basins. And the low-flows in the principal observation stations in the basins are analyzed and some drought-mitigations are proposed to secure the water resources and to promote the efficiency of water resources management.

표층밀도분류에 대한 수치계산에서 문제가 되는 것은 자유수면의 처리, 난류흐름에 있어서 레이놀즈응력/플럭스 및 특히 난류변동성분에 미치는 부력효과이며, 이것에 대한 보다 집중적인 연구가 필요하다. 또한 농도장이나 온도장에서의 난류변동성분 측정에 있어서의 어려움으로 인한 실험데이터의 부족으로 수치계산으로부터 얻어진 예측결과의 검증은 아직 정성적인 단계에 머무르고 있다. 본 연구는 자유수면을 갖는 2차원 표층밀도분류에 대한 유동특성을 조사하기 위한 계산의 간편성 때문에 널리 이용되는 k-ε모델과 난류의 비등방성을 고려한 대수응력모델의 프로그램을 개발하였다. 수치계산결과와 실험자료를 비교한 결과 k-ε모델은 운동량 탁월영역에서 2차원 표충밀도분류의 유동특성을 양호하게 재현하지만, 부력 탁월영역에서는 모델의 적용성에 대한 한계를 나타내고 있음을 확인하였다. 반면에 대수응력모델에 의한 계산결과는 전영역에서 흐림의 특성을 합리적으로 예측함을 입증하였다. The numerical studies on the surface buoyant jets have remained of requiring more intensive investigation for problems due to the treatments of free surface, Reynolds stress/flux terms in turbulent flow and especially buoyancy effects on the turbulent fluctuations, etc. The verification of predicted results from the numerical study still stays in the qualitative stage, because of the lack of experimental data, due, to the difficulties in measuring the turbulent fluctuations in concentration or temperature fields. In the study, the computer programs of k-ε model being widely used for the simplicity of computation and algebraic stress model that consider anisotropy of turbulent flow have been developed to compute the characteristics of two-dimensional surface buoyant jets with the free surface boundary condition. By comparing these results with experimental data, it is found that k-ε model can predict fairly well the characteristics of two-dimensional surface buoyant jets in the momentum region, but in buoyancy dominant stratified region this model has limitation to the applicability of them. On the other hand, algebraic stress model are proved to predict the flow characteristics in entire region reasonably.

The water quality in the Taechong dam basin was simulated for some conditions of flow and pollutant load with QUAL2E model verified to be available in several examples. The changes of water quality in 1996, 2001 and 2006 were predicted to evaluate the pollutant load contributions and aid to establish the water quality control plan. The flow rate for environment maintenance of upstream basin of Kum river was also proposed.
Reynolds응력모형에 의한 온배수 밀도류 해석기법의 개발

More intensive investigation for problems due to the treatments of free surface, Reynolds stress/flux terms in turbulent flow, especially buoyancy effects on the turbulent fluctuations, etc. is required in a numerical study on the surface-discharged buoyant jets. The verification of predicted results from the numerical study continues to be in the state of quality study, because of the lack of experimental data due to the difficulties in measuring the turbulent fluctuations in concentration or temperature fields. In this study, the two comparative computer programs of k-e model being widely used for the simplicity of computation and Algebraic Stress Model considering anisotropy of turbulent flow have been developed to compute the characteristics of two-dimensional surface buoyant jets with the free surface boundary condition. By comparing these results with experimental data, it is found that k-e model can predict fairly well the characteristics of two-dimensional surface buoyant jets in the momentum-dominant region. But in buoyancy-dominant stratified region, this model revealed a limitation to the applicability of them. On the other hand, computational results of Algebraic Stress Model are proved to predict the flow characteristics reasonably in the whole region.

The principal feature of water motion in rivers with flood plains is the interaction between the flows of the main channel and the flood plain. The interaction depends on the variation of hydraulic factors such as the flow depth, the width ratio of flood plain and main channel and the roughness difference between the main channel and the flood plain. Therefore, traditional discharge formulae for uniform flow such ad Chezy's and Manning' s have been found to give inaccurate results in the case of compound channel flows. In the study, the velocity and shear stress distributions in compound channels with equal roughness throughout the perimeter and the effects of momentum exchange between the main channel flow and the flood plain flow are investigated through some experiments. On the basis of several experimental results including published results. a simple method for evaluating the discharge in the compound channel is proposed and the possibility as a new discharge formula is discussed.

A 3-dimensional κ-ε 2 equation numerical model was established to investigate the behaviour of cooling water discharged into a cross-flow field. To grasp the hydrodynamic characteristics of the interaction between the cooling water and the cooling water and the cross flow, the complicated configuration of the sea bed in the Yongkwang bay was framed in the computer program, and the computations for a real-field flow condition were carried out. The rigorous comparison of the computation results with the observed data was impossible because of the poor field data, but the computation results were seemed to predict the behaviours of the cooling water approximately.

A numerical technique MAC method and its applications are described for the numerical investigation of the time-dependent flow of an incompressible fluid of which boundaries are partially bounded and partially free. The full Navier-Stokes equations in 2-dimension are calculated with finite-difference approximation. Especially a set of marker particles which move with the fluid are input into the flow field and traced at each time step, so the configuration of flow is captured. Some examples of the application of this method are presented.
