장기려와 매혜란의 의료선교 연구: 6.25전쟁 전시전후 부산에서의 활동을 중심으로

6.25전쟁의 참화 속에서 피난지 부산에 세워진 대표적인 기독병원 두 곳이 있다. 복음병원과 일신기독병원이다. 복음병원은 1951년에 그리고 일신기독병원은 1952년에, 장기려(張起呂, 1911~1995)와 호주선교사 매혜란(Helen P. Mackenzie, 1913~2009)에 의해 설립되었다. 장기려와 매혜란은 같은 지역에서 같은 시기에 활동하며 협력했던 동시대인들이었을 뿐만 아니라, 한반도 동남단 땅 끝 부산에 살며 하나님의 나라 본향(本鄕)을 바라봤던 ‘이주민’이었고, 소외된 이웃을 편견 없이 섬긴 ‘그리스도인’이었고, 돈보다 생명을 소중히 여겼던 ‘휴머니스트’였고, 첨단 선진 의술을 펼친 ‘의료인’이었으며, 미래지향적인 협업을 예수의 마음으로 실천한 ‘선각자’였다. 이 글의 목적은, 6.25전쟁의 피난지 부산에서 데칼코마니와 같은 삶을 살았던 장기려와 매혜란의 의료선교 연구를 통해, 전시전후 부산지역을 중심으로 한국교회와 사회에 미친 영향을 분석하고, 이를 통해 포스트 코로나 세상을 살아가는 오늘날 한국교회의 사회적 책임과 역할을 숙고(熟考)할 수 있는 계기를 마련하는 것이다. The Gospel Hospital and Ilsin Christian Hospital were established in Busan, the land of refugees, during the Korean War. Keeryo Chang(1911~1995), a Korean medical doctor, and Helen P. Mackenzie(1913~2009), an Australian medical missionary, were their founders. Chang and Mackenzie were contemporaries living and working in Busan. They have many commonalities: namely, they are ‘immigrants’ living in Busan but longing for God’s kingdom, ‘Christians’ unconditionally serving those who were in need, ‘humanists’ caring for human life, not the money, ‘medical experts’ providing the most advanced medical practice, and above all ‘pioneers’ practicing the word of Jesus Christ with their coworkers. The purpose of this research is to analyze the influence of the medical mission works of Chang and Mackenzie who lived similarly and sincerely in Busan during and after the post-Korean War and, by doing so, we expect to provide a precious opportunity to reconsider both the social responsibility and role of the Korea church struggling against the post-Covid-19.

알렌의 조선도착 기록 오류에 관한 연구

It is generally known that Horace N. Allen(1858-1932), the first resident missionary to Korea, left Shanghai for Korea on September 14, 1884. According to his own diary and letters, however, Allen had already come into the port of Busan on September 14. The date. which has been regarded as the beginning of the history of Korea mission, has to be readjusted. The Allen Diary in The Horace Newton Allen Manuscript Collection owned by the New York Public Library shows that on September 14 he did not leave Shanghai for Korea but was in Korea because the diary wrote about the port of Busan in detail. Unfortunately, Paek Nak-Chun, the most representative Korean church historian quoted and translated only the first sentence of the diary and ignored the latter part reporting Allen`s first impression of the port of Busan. Then following historians including Harry Rhodes(1875-1965) just requoted it without confirming the original sources. The purpose of this article is to explore the date and route of Allen coming from Shanghai to Korea in order to suggest the adjustment of the date of Allen`s arrival in Korea. For this purpose, Allen`s diary and personal letters have been employed along with those of other missionaries.

인도차이나 한국 기독교계 신흥종교운동 현황 연구 - 라오스, 베트남, 캄보디아를 중심으로

본 연구의 목적은 한류의 확산과 함께 인도차이나반도 사회주의국가에 진출해 활발하게 활동 중인 한국 기독교계 신흥종교운동들의 현황을 조사하고, 이러한 활동이 현지 국가와 국민에게 끼치는 영향을 분석하여 한국 종교문화의 순기능적인 해외 진출 방안을 모색하는 것이다. 현재 인도차이나반도의 라오스, 베트남, 캄보디아에서는 한국 기독교계 신흥종교운동들인 기쁜소식선교회(Good News Mission), 생명의말씀선교회(Life Word Mission), 신천지예수교 증거장막성전(Shincheonji), 세계평화통일가정연합(통일교, Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, the Unification Church), 하나님의교회 세계복음선교협회(Church of God World Mission Society) 등이 주목할 만한 활동을 펼치고 있으며, 이들에 대한 긍정적 · 부정적 평가가 현지에서 동시에 이루어지고 있다. The purpose of this study is to examine the present situations of Korean new religious movements in the Indochina, to analyze their influences on Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia, and to seek positive solutions for Korean religious culture to be introduced into the Indochina. Currently, Good News Mission, Life Word Mission, Shincheonji, Family Federation for World Peace and Unification(the Unification Church), Church of God World Mission Society are active in those countries, which are both positively and negatively depicted.

한국교회의 병리현상과 신흥종교운동

이 글의 목적은 한국교회의 병리현상이 기독교계 신흥종교운동들의 발흥에 끼친 영향을 분석하는 것이다. 이를 통해 종교개혁 500주년과 민주화운동 30주년을 맞는 한국교회의 개혁 방향을 모색하는 것이다. 연구 대상은 사회적 논란이 되었던 기독교계 신흥종교운동들로 제한하며, 시기적인 범위는 1987년 6월 항쟁으로부터 종교개혁 500주년을 맞는 2017년까지에 초점을 맞춘다. 단 논의의 전개를 위해, 한국전쟁 이후 기독교계 신흥종교운동의 발흥과 전개과정을 서론 부분에서 개괄적으로 다루려고 한다. 주제에 대한 선행연구는 미미하지만 꾸준한 형편이다. 구한말과 일제강점기 한국 신흥종교운동들에 대한 주목할 만한 연구로는 이강오의 『韓國新興宗敎摠監』(대흥기획, 1992)이 있는데, 불교계와 동학계와 기독교계 신흥종교운동들에 대한 상세한 정보를 제공하고 있다. 일제강점기 이후 기독교계 신흥종교운동들의 발흥에 대한 현장중심의 연구를 진행한 탁명환의 『한국의 신흥종교 : 기독교편』 I-IV(국제종교문제연구소, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1987)가 자세한 관련정보를 전달해주고 있다. 한국전쟁과 군사정권의 등장은 사회적 불안정성과 반공사상을 이용한 기독교계 신흥종교운동 발흥의 밑거름이 되었으며, 1987년 민주화 이후에는 새로운 상황에 적응하기 위한 신흥종교운동들의 친사회적 활동 변화가 주목된다. 한국교회의 교리적 인정보다 주변 사회의 공신력을 얻고자 하는 방향으로 신흥종교운동들의 활동이 이루어진다. 한편 신흥종교운동들의 영향력이 확대될 수 있었던 것은 한국교회의 병리현상, 즉 신행불일치의 삶과 신앙으로 인한 한국교회의 사회적 고립과도 무관하지 않으며, 이로 인해 한국교회는 개혁주체가 아니라 개혁대상으로까지 비판을 받게 된다. 그리고 이는 한국교회의 기독교계 신흥종교운동들에 대한 대책마련에 있어서도 부정적 영향을 미치게 된다. 한국교회가 병리현상을 극복하고 신흥종교운동들의 도전에 효과적으로 응전하면서, 교회의 본질을 회복해 나아갈 수 있는 방안의 모색이 필요한 시점이다. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the influence of pathological phenomenon of Korean church to the rise and growth of Christian new religious movements. This examination emphasizes on the period from 1986 to 2017 and, in the beginning of this paper, the formation of Christian new religious movements after the Korean War is explored to show their socio-historical background. Notably, there have been few but continuing preceding researches, such as, Gang-Oh Lee’s Comprehensive Studies of New Religious Movements in Korea and Myong-Hwan Tark’s New Religious Movements in Korea, I-IV. The Korean War and the military dictatorship were a fertile soil for the rise and growth of the movements and they have tried to make some important changes in their beliefs and practices since the democratization of Korean society in 1986. The formation of Christian new religious movements is deeply related to the pathological phenomenon of Korean church, namely, the imbalance between belief and practice, which causes its isolation. As a result of this phenomenon, there is a serious concern for Korean church nowadays and Korean church is expected to not only respond to the challenge of new religious movements but also reform and restore its identity.

The year 2012 is the 120 year anniversary of the arrival of Rosetta Sherwood Hall (1865-1951). Rosetta Hall was laid to rest beside her husband, son, daughter, daughter-in-law, and grandson in the Yanghwajin Foreign Missionary Cemetery. For 45 years (1890-1935), indeed, Hall had fought a good fight for Korean people and the glory of God. She is the pioneer of special education for the blind and deaf. Notably, she established the first modern medical center in Pyonyang and the first children`s hospital in Korea, educated the first female medical doctor, Esther Park, and founded the first women`s medical school. For the first time, most significantly, Hall set up the school for special education, introduced braille points, developed Korean version of braille points, and tried integrated education for the blind and deaf. The purpose of this paper is to examine the influence of Rosetta Hall on the areas of special education and the Korean church. It focuses on the period of her stay in Pyongyang from 1897 to 1917. The relevant original sources preserved in the United Methodist Archives Center, Drew University, and her own writings which appeared on the Korea Mission Field are analyzed for this study.

"주 안에 우린 하나 모습은 달라도" - 국내 외국인 근로자 선교와 에큐메니즘: "주 안에 우린 하나 모습은 달라도"

  울산 거주 외국인들을 위한 한 영어 예배 공동체는 다국적(多國籍), 다문화(多文化), 다인종(多人種), 다연령(多年齡), 다교파(多敎派) 신앙공동체이다. 이들에게는 예수를 그리스도로 고백한다는 사실 외에는 공통점이 거의 없다. 이 신앙공동체에는 장로교인, 침례교인, 오순절교인, 가톨릭교인, 동방정교회교인, 그리고 심지어는 회교도도 친구를 따라 가끔 참석하기도 한다. 예배의 공식 언어는 영어지만, 각자가 사용하는 영어의 발음과 억양은 출신 국가별로 다양하다. 그래서 이 신앙공동체의 공식적인 이름은 "International Worship in English"이다. 이러한 다양성으로 인해, 매달 둘째 주에 있는 성찬식은 항상 성령의 인도하심을 체험하는 시간이다. 공통점이라고는 거의 없는 이들이 오직 예수님 때문에 모여, 예수님처럼 느끼고, 예수님처럼 생각하고, 예수님처럼 말하고, 예수님처럼 사는 것을 배우며, 세상이 줄 수도 알 수도 없는 오직 예수 그리스도만이 주실 수 있는 평화를 맛보는 시간이기 때문이다. 그렇기에 이 신앙공동체의 표어는 "Celebrating Diversity & Sharing Peace"이다. 이 글은, 이곳에서의 필자의 목회경험을 바탕으로, 이 외국인 근로자 신앙공동체의 에큐메니즘을 연구하는 것이다. 이들이 어떻게 서로를 받아들이며 "다양성"속에서 "일치"를 이루어 나아가고 있는지에 대한 연구를 통해, "에큐메니칼 예수가족 신앙공동체"의 신학적 의미를 찾아보고자 한다.   There is a unique faith community for foreigners in Ulsan, Korea, which is multi-national, multi-cultural, multi-racial, multiage, and multi-denominational. Commonality is hardly found among its members except their faith in Jesus Christ. Its official language is English but its accents are very vary based their racial-ethnic background. Due to these differences, the Lord"s Supper celebrated every second Sunday is an unforgettable moment empowered by the Holy spirit because, by doing so, they find they are one in Christ Jesus. Not surprisingly, its motto is "Celebrating Diversity & Sharing Peace." The purpose of this paper is to examine the ecumenism in this faith community. Specifically, in the light of the idea of reception in ecumenical dialogue, we will explore how they are creating and renewing their unity in their diversity.
