GIS 기반 스토리텔링 기법을 이용한 인구지리 수업 모형 개발

In recent years, there have been a growing number of studies on integrating storytelling in elementary and secondary education with an increased interest in storytelling as means of communication. Research related to storytelling is growing gradually in geography education as well, but it is still in its early stage and more studies have to be devoted to developing practical methods applicable to the classroom. Against this backdrop, this study aims to develop a teaching model for population geography using storytelling methods based on GIS. According to the literature on this topic, storytelling methods and GIS both have the potential to bring many positive effects on geography education, so GIS based storytelling is also expected to be an effective approach. We suggested 3 major types of teaching method using GIS based storytelling by which students can understand stories and learn in the location based visual context as well as improve spatial thinking. We developed a teaching model using a teacher-led method that can be used most commonly in the classroom for the migration topic of middle school geography focusing on the geospatial web approach of GIS. We attempted to have it more applicable to the classroom through the discussions with middle school teachers, so it is expected to contribute to actual classes and further research.
디지털 격차와 공간: 공간적 접근성에 대한 시론적 접근

There has recently been growing interest in the digital divide with the rapid development of the information and communication technologies (ICTs). The main purpose of this article is to develop a framework for discussing the impacts of the digital divide in a spatial context by the literature review, and to conduct a case study of applying it to concrete empirical research. According to the result of the review, relatively little attention has been given to information itself which is the content of the ICTs, as well as outcomes or consequences of the digital divide in spatial perspective. I pointed out that more empirical studies focusing on the effects of ICTs and geospatial information on individuals and regions should be conducted. Then I suggested that spatial accessibility could be one of the main themes of such research, and carried out a case study of Seoul to identify the feasibility of empirical research. The preliminary analysis of case study showed that the digital divide could have a great impact on spatial accessibility or mobility. Further research is needed to find out the full future implications of that outcome.

본 연구의 목적은 공업 입지론의 교육을 위한 GIS 기반의 교수-학습을 모형을 제안하는 것이다. 이를 위해 국내에서 이루어진 GIS 관련 지리교육 연구의 동향을 검토하였다. 국내에서 이루어진 연구들 중 GIS를 이용한 지리 수업에 초점을 둔 연구는 많지 않았으며, 또한 대부분 유사한 교수-학습 방법을 사용하고 있었다. 본 연구에서는 교수-학습 대상으로서의 공업 입지론의 특성에 대해 살펴본 후 GIS에 기반한 문제해결학습 기반의 교수-학습 모형을 제안하였다. 문제해결학습은 학습자의 능동적인 참여를 유도하여 탐구력 및 문제해결력을 증진시킬수 있다. 특히 GIS가 가진 시각적 공간 분석은 학습자들로 하여금 입지론에 포함된 추상적인 개념이나 원리를 직관적으로 이해할 수 있도록 지원할 수 있다. 이러한 논의를 바탕으로 실제 수업 현장에서 적용할 수 있는 교수-학습 계획안과 GIS 프로그램을 예시하였다. This study aims to design a GIS based teaching and learning model for industrial location theory. First, I reviewed the direction of research on geography education based on GIS in Korea. Only a few studies focused on teaching and leaning geography using GIS, and besides they used similar methods of teaching and learning. Next, I investigated the characteristics of Weber`s industrial location theory as educational contents, and suggested a problem solving learning model based on GIS. Problem solving learning requires students to take on active learning strategies, so enhances students` understanding and problem solving skills. In particular, GIS based visual analysis can support students` intuitive understanding of abstract concepts and principles of the theory. Finally, I suggested teaching and learning plan and demonstrated a GIS application could be used in the real classroom situation.

The spatial distribution of social disadvantage has been one of the well-known research topics in urban geography, but relatively little attention has been given to the single-households elderly. This study aims at analyzing the spatial patterns of the single-households elderly and accessibility to public transport, and the relationship between them in Seoul. Main findings are threefold. First, there is a high concentration of the single-households elderly (low-income households in particular) in some areas, and the distribution of them shows a tendency to cluster locally. Second, analysis of accessibility to public transport stops reports that major centers and some areas along main transit routes show higher accessibility whereas the outskirts of the city and some inner areas show lower accessibility. In addition, the analysis reveals the considerable difference in the accessibility values between high and low accessibility areas. Third, while there is no evidence of systematic global correlation between the distributions of single-households elderly and accessibility to public transport, locally scattered areas with higher concentration and lower accessibility are observed. This study is expected to contribute to the development of further research and effective implementation of urban policies.
