By the explosive increase of population and industrialization the security of water resources is required, and water resource pollution problem is emerging as a serious social issue. For the ongoing Saemankeum project, lots of efforts are being put together to manage the water quality of the Saemankeum above a certain level, and it is sure that water quality management problem of main inflows from Mankyung River and Dongjin River is very important. Based upon the water quality data of Mankyung River this report examines its correlative characteristics by water quality sampling point factors and the water pollution resource factors, and subjects to provide elementary data for efficient water quality management of Mankyung River.

This study was conducted to assess the possibility of the field application of the iceharbor-type precast fishway. When overflow depth of weir is 4.0 cm in model fishway, upper part velocities appear appropriate for upstream migration of fish and the lowest overflow wall (right line) in lower part has shown velocity distribution more or less inadequate for upstream migration. Except that right line, left and middle line revealed that velocities are appropriate for upstream migration of fish. Therefore, we concluded that this fishway owing to be not broad growth width of overflow velocities according to increasing discharges can correspond to variation of water level. Also We consider that various velocities in fishway were effective, because slow velocity line can guide flow for upstream migration. For low flow, the arrangement of different crest level or each overflow part (higher left, middle and lower right, or lower left, middle and higher right) was more effactive than unform crert level. Hole plays an important role as migration pass during drought and flood flow. Therefore, We concluded that this fishway can cope with water depth variation by various overflow wall height change and raise the field applicability with better performance hydraulically and structurally.

The purpose of this study is to construct an Environment Database Management System (EDMS) for the Saemangeum watershed based on the linkage of Water Quality Model, i.e. QUALKO and WASP model, and GIS database to estimate water quality effectively in this area. There are two major river systems on this study area, the Mangyeong and the Dongjin rivers. Input data are automatically generated through the calculation of the pollutant loading and inflow concentration from the point and non-point sources. The developed system is composed of three different phases, such as pre-process, model performance and post-process. The Model performance is supported by the database at pre-process phase and model performance results were shown in the graphs and attribution data at post-process phase. The measured data from the Mangyeong and the Dongjin rivers are used to evaluate the applicability of EDMS. The EDMS shows higher reliability, and it is expected to contribute to the effective management and improvement of water quality modeling in the Saemangeum watershed since the system reduces complications of using a model in DOS operating environment and increases the accuracy of water quality analysis.

Geumgang canal is planned to connect Geumgang lake with Saemangeum reservoir to accelerate desalinization and dillute polluted water in Saemangeum reservoir. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the variations of water quality by divesion of Geumgang lake flow to the Saemangeum reservoir. WASP5 model was used to estimate water quality concentration of Geumgang lake. Model calibration and verification was done for water quality data for 2001 and 2002. As a result of simulating water quality concentration for 4 scenarios, which was considered whether Geumgang canal will be built, there was little influence on water quality in Geumgang lake though Geumgang lake flow diverted to Saemangeum reservoir.

This study was conducted to analyzed of the characteristics of water quality in the inlet of Saemangeum.. Specifically hourly monitoring(25hr) performed from Feburary 2003 to October 2005. Variation of salinity was no diffirence between at MKB and DJB on the large time of tidal effect on the side DJB was more higher(p<0.01) salinity than MKB by on the small time of tidal effect and rainfall, therefore we know that the tide flow into toward DJB than MKB. Total suspended solids(TSS) increase by turbulence as seawater input. A principal component analysis(PCA) showed that salinity and TSS factors was opposite to TN and TP factors. Therefore we expected that there is no correlation between high TSS and a nutrient increase and seawater circulation have an effect on water quality improvement by dissolved oxygen supply and nutrients dilution. Also, there is very big difference between minimum and maximum values during hourly monitoring(25hr) of TSS(100~800mg/L), COD(4.0~12.0mg/L), TN(3.0~9.0mg/L) and TP(0.2~1.0mg/L) which showed a sine curve 『The lowest-increase-peak-decrease-The lowest』types. The variation of water quality explained by hourly monitoring(25hr) suggests that water quality environments of Saemangeum area may have cycle typical of estuary river depending on tidal effects.

This study was conducted to analyzed of the ecological condition of Saemangeum water and reclaimed land areas from 2003 to 2005. We know that fish are free access to the embankment because it was not different of species between inside and ouside at a tide embankment. But Fish species has changed following the completion of embankment as salinity decrease and will survive strong species of low salinity like a Synechogobius hasta. Succession of benthic was very clear from sandy soil dominant species to mud soil by reason of decrease of tidal range. Reclaimed Land areas vary in different localities like a deposition of Kunsan area(LineⅠ), erosion of Kimje area(Line Ⅱ) and mixing of deposion and erosion at Buan area(Line Ⅲ,Ⅳ). We think very difficult understand various variation of reclaimed land like this erosion, deposition and moving. Therefore we make a claim of continuous survey specially about "the birth of a new the foreshore" in outside of Dike 1 and "erosion of the Byeonsan beach".
