Clinical study was made on a total of 59 eyes with retinal vein occlusion in 58 patients treated at Woo Sok University Hospital during the period from January 1956 to December 1967. The following results were obtained : 1. Eight of 59 eyes had the occlusion in the central retinal vein and 51 eyes in its branches. 2. Thirty-one cases developed in male and 27 cases in female. No significant difference in incidence was noted between sexes. 3. The majority of cases were in the 6th and 7th decades. 4. Right eye was involved in 40 cases, left eye in 17 cases, and both eyes in only one case. 5. The superior temporal branch was most frequently involved and most occlusions in the lower hemisphere were inferior temporal in distribution. 6. Most of the cases with visual acuity less than counting fingers at 1 meter had the occlusion in the lower hemisphere. 7. The majority of cases had hypertension. 8. Mean value of the serum cholesterol was 193.3±28.11㎎%.

Though not often found in the past, ocular cysticercosis tends to be found more frequently throughout the nation lately since Son reported four cases of subretinal cysticercosis in 1958. Although intra-ocular cysticercosis may often lead to blindness and atrophy of the globe, we have not epidemiological data on this case in Korea. In order to know the incidence, distribution and others of the ocular cysticercosis, the author recently studied 45 cases which were diagnosed as ocular cysticercosis at six university hospitals, three general hospitals and six private eye clinics from January, 1967 to July, 1972. It is still a problem in surgical extraction and diagnosis of the cysticercus that is located behind the lens. The author performed operation for five cases of cysticercosis cellulosae in the posterior segment of the eye during the time form February, 1968 to July, 1971. Based on this experience, the author reports several essentials helpful to the diagnosis and surgery. The results obtained were as follows: 1. Epidemiologically, ocular cysticercosis can be found all throughout the nation and in all classes of people. 2. In diagnosis, especially when the ocular media is cloudy, Goldmann's three-mirror contact lens is of great help. 3. Surgically, (a) when the cysticercus is retolental, surgical extraction is difficult. Even in markedly advanced cases, however, visual acuity can be improved after surgery. (b) Although surgery should be undertaken at an early date before the intra-ocular structures have suffered irreversible damage, it is advised that the operation may be postponed when the cysticercus in active. 4. Prophylaxis is urgent in order to prevent blindness and atrophy of the globe.

Glaucoma screening is an important means of detecting early cases of glaucoma. It is particularly valuable if targeted either at groups who otherwise do not have access to the health care system or at groups who have the risk factors for vascular diseases. We conducted glaucoma screenings by tonometry and direct opthalmoscopy in the out-patient department of ophthalmology at Korea University Haewha Hospital and in the homes for the aged that are located in Seoul between Sep. 1987 and Sep. 1989. A total of 282 subjects were screened in the outpatient department and 198 subjects were screened in the homes for the aged. Referral rate was 6.7% and 3.0%, respectively. Groups who have the risk factors showed greater referral rates than groups who have not, but they are not statistically significant (p>0.05).
