The use of biological indicator for environmental monitoring has suddenly become popular in many international organizations as well as domestic ones. Since the biological indicator species should be well responsive to native environmental change, development of native indicator species is prerequisite for environmental assessment and restoration program. Through regression analysis of mean density and pH, potential indicator species were screened from Namsan and Kwangreung where differential environmental stresses are influenced; Lasiobelba remota, Ceratozetes sp. Tectocepheus velatus, Neogymnobates sp. And Oppia sp.3. Also keystone species in two study area were Lohmannia coreana, Ceratozetes sp., Rostrozetes pulcherrimus, and Lasiobelba remota in Namsan Deciduous forest and Neogymnobates sp., Neogymnobates donghaksaensis, and Cultroribula tridentata in Kwangreung. Advantages and disadvantages of using biological indicator for environmental monitoring were further discussed.

From sludge recycling system of earthworm (Eisenia fetida) using different media, different soil inhabiting mites and collembolans were associated. The sludge media were 2 different paper mill sludges, dairy cattle dung, Korean native cattle (Hanwoo) dung, and sewage sludge. For collembola, species in the family, Neanuridae were abundant from paper mill sludge, but ones from Hypogastruridae from cattle dungs. A large number of Folsomia bidentata in Isotomida was found from Korean cattle dung. Most of the mites found were gamasid predators with Uroobovella japanomarginata abundant from cattle dungs. Further, relationship of these mites and collembolans between or among microbial composition, physio-chemical properties of the sludge media and associative roles with earthworm needs further study for a better sludge-recycling bioengineering system.

2013년 5월 UN FAO의 식용곤충 보고서는 환경오염 등으로 인한 기후 온난화와 증가하는 지구 인구의 식량 공급 문제를 해결 할 수 있는 가장 경제적이고 지속가능한 방안으로 곤충 식량화를 지목하였다. 우리나라는 이미 2010년에 곤충산업법을 제정하여 곤충 산업화 연구개발 및 산업화를 지원하고 있다. 이 논문은 국내 곤충 식용의 역사와 산업화 가능한 소재 및 그 영양 가치를 소개하고, 곤충 산업화의 경제 사회적 장점을 기존 축산 생산의 환경 효율성 등과 비교하였다. 또한 곤충식품 산업화의 걸림돌이 될 수 있는 요소를 제시함으로써 지속적 식용곤충 산업의 발전 방향을 제시하였다. In Korea, legislation of insect industry law provides the funding on the research and commercialization of insect farming. Korea has a long history of entomophagy but most for the medicinal purpose not for the dietary needs. In this review, possible list of edible insects and their nutritional values were discussed. Also the environmental advantage of farming insects to the traditional livestock raising were discussed relative to the global warming and economic production. Lastly some issues hindering the propagation of edible insect farming such as enlisting the official food item and environmental risk management were addressed.

Greater attentions are paid to the insect industry (insect farming) especially for the economic, sustainable solution to feed the growing world population following the issue of FAO report of edible forest insect in May 2013. In Korea, legislation of insect industry law provides the funding for the research and development on commercialization of insect farming and processing. Korea has a long history of entomophagy but most for the medicinal purpose not for the dietary needs. This reports the importance of the commercialization of edible insects, current status of R&D and marketing in Europe and Korea, and its possibility of feeding global human population as well as income generation. Also, we suggested some tactics to improve the friendly awareness of entomophagy otherwise easily repelled.
