In this study, silkgland powder of silkworm were investigated to see possibility for cosmetic powder materials. To test possibility as a baby powder cosmetics, total content rate of amino acids, DPPH free radical scavenging assay, MTT assay, and clinical trial were done. According to the result of the analysis of the amino acids of silkgland powder, serin (26.77%) content was the highest and asparatic acid (15.47%), and glycine (9.62%) were followed. DPPH free radical scavenging activity of silkgland powder was lower than vitamin C by 82.3% and 97%, respectively, which is relatively good. And the moisture and elasticity effect were increased in silkgland powder compared to control cosmetics by 210% and 185%, relatively. Thus, these results suggest that silkgland powder of silkworm may have beneficial properties as a material for cosmeceuticals.
누에생실샘 미세분말을 이용한 기능성 화장품 소재 개발에 대한 연구

본 연구는 누에생실샘 미세분말을 포함하는 트윈케이크 및 팩트용 화장품 소재로서의 특성을 아미노산 분석, 항산화, 보습 및 탄력 효과와 관련된 다양한 실험을 통해 평가하였다. 누에생실샘 미세분말 함유 시험제형의 아미노산은 serine (26.77 %), aspartic (15.47 %), glycine (9.62 %) 등으로 조성되어 있으며, 보습 효과를 나타내는 serin은 누에분말보다 150 % 이상 함유하고 있었다. 누에생실샘 미세분말 함유 시험제형이 함유하지 않은 비교제형보다 입자 크기가 작음을 확인하였고, 우수한 항산화 활성을 지는 것으로 확인하였다. 또한 누에생실샘 미세분말 함유한 시험제형이 비교 제형보다 피부 보습력과 탄력성에서 각각 257.2 %와 181.15 % 증가한 것을 확인하였다. 이러한 연구결과로부터 항산화 뿐만 아니라 피부 보습 및 탄력성을 높인 누에생실샘 미세분말 함유 화장품의 기능성 화장품 소재 개발 가능성을 확인하였다. 산사발효초가 고지방식이를 급여한 흰쥐의 지질대사에 미치는 영향

본 연구에서는 산사 발효초가 고지방식이를 급여한 흰쥐의 지질대사에 미치는 영향에 대해 살펴보았다. 흰쥐에게 고지방식이(40% kcal% fat, beef tallow)를 급여하면서 산사 발효초를 저농도(1.5% wt/wt, n=8), 고농도(3.0% wt/wt, n=8)로 투여하였을 때, 정상식이군(n=8)과 고지방식이 대조군(n=8)과의 체중, 장기무게, 지질 함량 등의 차이를 관찰하였다. 체중은 산사발효초군이 정상식이군보다 유의적으로 증가하였지만, 고지방식이 대조군보다 유의적으로 각각 7.2%, 10.0% 감소하였다. 간과 신장 무게도 고지방식이 대조군에 비해 산사발효초군들에서 유의적으로 감소하였다. 고농도 산사발효초군에서 혈청의 중성지방, 총콜레스테롤, LDL-C, 동맥경화지수 및 간의 중성지방, 총콜레스테롤 함량은 고지방식이 대조군에 비해 유의적으로 감소하였지만 혈청 중 HDL-C 함량은 유의적으로 증가하였다. 분변 중포화지방산 함량은 고농도 산사발효초군에 비해 정상식이 군이나 고지방식이대조군에서 유의적으로 높았다. 결론적으로 산사발효초는 체중을 감소시키며 혈청이나 간의 지질함량을 개선시키고, 포화지방산 배설을 증가시키므로 체중조절 및 지질대사 개선 효과가 규명되었다. Crataegi fructus has been used as an oriental medicine and a folk remedy for the treatment of scurvy, constipation and stomach ailment. This study was aimed to investigate the effect of fermented Crataegi fructus vinegar (FCV) on the improvement of lipid metabolism in rats fed high fat diet (40% kcal% fat, fat source; beef tallow). Sprague-Dawley rats (n=32) were randomly divided into four groups [normal diet (ND), high fat diet (HD), and high fat diet supplemented with low (CFL; 1.5% wt/wt) and high (CFH; 3.0% wt/wt) doses of fermented Crataegi fructus vinegar] and were fed experimental diets for 6 weeks. At the end of the experiment, the body weight in high fat diet groups was higher than that of normal diet group, while the body weights of CFL and CFH group were significantly reduced by 7.2% and 10.0%, respectively, as compared with that of HD group. Moreover, liver and kidney weights in CFL and CFH group were significantly lower than that of HD group (p<0.05). The levels of serum triglyceride, total cholesterol, LDL-C, atherogenic index and hepatic triglyceride, total cholesterol in CFH group were significantly decreased as compared with HD group whereas it increased the serum level of HDL-C than HD group (p<0.05). CFL and CFH groups showed significantly decreased AST, ALT and ALP of serum as compared with HD group. Excretions of fecal saturated fatty acid in CFH group was significantly increased compared with ND and HD groups. These results imply that fermented Crataegi fructus vinegar can be used as possible food resources and functional food materials.

To investigate the effects of Protaetia. brevitarsis extracts on the protection against liver damage by carbon tetrachloride( CCl4) in rat, two kinds of experiment were performed, firstly by the primary hepatocyte culture and secondly by the animal feeding. The primary hepatocyte culture with the extracts of P.brevitarsis showed significantly low activities of GPT, bile acid, and bilirubin, indicating an excellent protective effect against liver damage by CCl4. Especially, below molecular weight 1,000 blew the water to have 32.1% recovery degree. In the seconde experiment, serum GPT activity was significantly decreased in water fraction of P.brevitarsis compared to CCl4 treatment by 98.2%. Serum concentration of bile acid and bilirubin were tended to increased by CCl4 treatment, but water fraction of P.brevitarsis and silymarin recovered the level. These consistent results in vitro and in vivo suggest that the extracts of P.brevitarsis may have strong protective effects against liver damage induced by the potential toxicants such as CCl4.

According to the result of the analysis of the amino acids of silk gland powder, serin (26.77%) content was the highest and asparatic acid (15.47%), and glycine (9.62%) were followed. DPPH free radical scavenging activity of silk gland powder was lower than vitamin C by 82.3% and 97%, respectively, which is relatively good. Moisture effect were increased in silk gland powder compared to control cosmetics by 50%. Also, silk gland powder was classified as a practically non-irritating material based on the score 0.05 of primary irritation index. Thus, these results suggest that silk gland powder of silkworm may have beneficial properties as a material for baby powder cosmetics.
고지방식이 유도 비만쥐에서 화분이 체중 감소 및 지질대사에 미치는 영향

The intake of high caloric foods and change in lifestyles of industrialized countries has exponentially increased the prevalence of obesity. Pollen contains the richest known source of vitamins, minerals, proteins, and amino acids. Pollen has been traditionally used for the treatment of improve stamina, energy and promote health, and vitality. First, we investigated the anti-adipogenic effect by measuring lipid accumulation with Oil red O staining. The accumulation of triacylglycerol was decreased in 3T3-L1 cells treated with pollen as compared with untreated cells. Second, we investigated the anti-obesity effect of pollen in diet-induce obesity mice. C57BL/6J mice were artificiality induced by dietary manipulation with a high fat diet for 10weeks. After obesity in mice was achieved, pollen groups were administered with pollen at a dose of 100, 300㎎/㎏/day by oral gavages for another 10weeks. At the end of the experiment, the body weight of pollen groups were significantly reduced as compared with that of the high fat diet group by 15.2%, 7.5%, respectively. Serum levels of triglyceride and total cholesterol of pollen groups were significantly decreased compared with that of the high fat diet group while the serum levels of HDLcholesterol were significantly increased. Hepatic levels of triglyceride and total cholesterol in pollen groups were significantly decreased than those of high fat diet group. The results suggest that pollen can be used as potential therapeutic substance as part of prevention or treatment strategy of obesity.

Honey production in Korea has increased significantly for the last few decades. Enforcement of the high standard for honey quality and its control would increase the public awareness of pure domestic honey. This study evaluated the quality of honey from different nectar origins of 2014. Among 3796 samples, 78.7% were acacia honey, 2.6% chestnut, and 18.7% were multifloral honey. 70% of acacia honey showed moisture contents higher than 20%. Inverted sugar content was highest in acacia honey. Fructose was 38~41% whereas glucose was 24~29% with higher F/G ratio from chestnut honey. Most honey samples showed lower (4~9㎎/㎏) HMF contents but some showed extreme high values above 200㎎/㎏. Stable carbon isotope ratio showed clear two peaks of frequency around -12 and -24 which indicates the possible adulteration of other carbohydrates from C4 plants. Sample above -22 ‰ was 6.7% of acacia honey, and 9.95% of multifloral honey. Continuous quality assessment and control is the vital element for the sustainable development of beekeeping industry.

Quality assurance is critical for the conservation of market not only for the consumers but also for the producers. This is even more important in agricultural products such as honey. Honey is the natural sweetness collected and preserved by honeybee in the combs of honeybee hive. We analyzed the honey standard items of water, sugar, HMF, carbon stable isotope ratio, and presence of pollens from different categories of honey displayed in the market; acasia honey, multifloral honey, imported honey, processed honey product and sugar honey. In most case, all tested showed within the ranges of honey standards. Processed honey products and imported honey showed higher HMF. Carbon stable isotope ratio showed clear difference of processed honey products and sugar honey from other natural sources of honey. In addition, in the market, higher frequency of packaging into 600g or 1.2Kg was noticed. Unit price of honey was higher in smaller package.
