The purpose of this study is to explore the influence of a mother's rearing attitude and children's self-concept on children's relations with friends and teachers. Specifically, this study investigated children's self-concept to mediate the relationship between the mother's rearing attitude and the children's relations with friends and teachers. The Subjects were 222 fourth year elementary school and their mothers. Data were analyzed using the SAS program. The results of this study were as follows : Mother's rearing attitude did not directly influence children's relations with friends and teachers. But children's self-concept influenced the children's relations with friends and teachers. In particular children's self-concept appeared to mediate the relation between mother's rearing attitude and children's relations with friends and teachers.

The purpose of this study is to explore the relation among mother`s rearing attitude in infancy, children`s self-concept and the relationship with friends in childhood by using the longitudinal data originated by the Korean Institute for Research in the Behavioral Sciences(KIRBS). Specifically, using Structural Equation Modeling(SEM), the causal relation among the mother`s rearing attitude in infancy, children`s self-concept and the relationship with friends in childhood were examined across a 8-year-period. The subjects were 68 children(38 boys and 30 girls) from the KIRBS longitudinal data. The results showed that mother`s rearing attitude in infancy can be consequential environmental variable factor, and children`s self-concept do not play an essential intermediate role between mother`s rearing attitude in infancy and the relationship with friends in childhood. This study used a newly attempted method in the field of Human Development.
어머니의 양육태도와 아동의 자아개념이 아동의 대인관계에 주는 영향: 종단적 분석

The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship among child rearing attitudes, self-concept and peer relationships longitudinally. In order to define the causal relation among them, linear structural relation analyses were performed. The analyses were separated by sex with respect to the result of previous studies. The study used the data set of the project, Longitudinal Study of Korean Children which Korean Institute for Research in the Behavioral Sciences has been carrying out since 1975 to date. In the present study, it was assumed that the time lag characteristics of the longitudinal data was adequate to explore the relationships among the research variales. The results of this study were as follows : mother`s child rearing attitudes directly influenced the peer relationships of their children. But in the case of boys, self-concept did not significantly influence peer relationships. In the case of girl, child rearing attitude did not significantly influence their children`s self-concept. Thus self-concept did not appeare to mediate between child rearing attitudes and peer relationships.
