Electro chemical corrosion tests were conducted on two structural steels, SS400 and SM490A, in various solutions with different pH values. All materials showed typical active corrosion behaviors in the solutions, and corrosion potential and current density were measured from the slopes obtained from the Tafel curves using linear polarization method. Corrosion potential increased in the acidic region and then decreased depending on the pH values of the solutions. All materials showed the fast corrosion rate in artificial acid rain(pH=4.7), but the slower corrosion rate was observed In NaOH solution(pH=12.0) for SS400 and In distilled watert(pH=7.0) for SM490A, respectively, which is thought to come from the difference in chemical composition of two alloys. Generally homogeneous corrosion occurred in acid rain condition, and almost no corrosion was observed in distilled water in both alloys. NaOH solution produced more corrosion than distilled water, and more corrosion had progressed in SS400 than in SM490A in 3.5% NaCl solution.

The present paper describes an experimental study on the corrosive behaviour of Rolling stock structures. It is important to predict corrosive behaviour of rolling stock structures for safe service and to know relation between corrosion and fatigue life. This paper practiced atmospheric corrosion test of SS400 and SM490A. This study practiced an additional test on the influence of heat-treatment. This test will examine corrosive behaviour and differences of SS400 and SM490A.

The effect of alloying elements on the mechanical properties was investigated to develop the high strength sheet steel for hot dip coating. Silicon and manganese were known as the elements deteriorating the wettability of molten zinc by oxide film formed during annealing. Therefore, phosphorous and titanium were added as solid solution and precipitation hardening element, respectively. The increase of strength by 0.01% addition of alloying element was as follows : 10.3MPa by P. 22.6MPa by Ti+14.7MPa by Ti+Nb. 0.77 MPa by Mn and 7.7MPa by C. An addition of phosphorous and titanium resulted in providing high strength steels and reducing amount of manganese addition.

Recently a variety of new transportation systems have been developed or introduced but there has been a lot of confusion in the selection process of systems because there is no such domestic cases and a lack of information on the systems. It does not make sense to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the systems in a single frame because each system has different characteristics and purposes. It is important to compare the relative values of the systems considering the status of the project site transport demand costs and environmental aspects of cities. In the present paper the operational system and infrastructure technologies of the bimodal tram developed in Korea were investigated. Based on this the values for the bimodal tram was compared with similar new transportation systems through several practice cases. It is expected to promote in the practical use of the bimodal tram through this study.

Deterioration analysis was performed on carbody and bogies of a shunting locomotive, which has been used for shunting works in steel making processes. In this investigation, various types of technical evaluation methods for the locomotive were employed to assess the current deterioration status. Corrosion test and nondestructive evaluation (NDE) techniques were employed to demonstrate the wear status of the carbody and bogie parts in the locomotive. Since the locomotive has been working under corrosive environment, the corrosion tests with x-ray analysis for exterior part of the locomotive were conducted to examine the evolution of corrosion reaction, and NDE techniques such as ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle testing, and x-ray radiography, were conducted on the carbody and bogies to inspect any possible inherent and/or in-service flaws. In this paper, the degree of deterioration in a shunting locomotive has been presented based on the analysis results.

Since adding design elements to train manufacturing technologies creates addition of high value, it is necessary to develop design for FRT with increased convenience of transportation by rail, which is a new paradigm. Therefore, an evaluation model for increasing convenience of the interior of FRT should draw the requirements of such design and their importance and supply logical basis for setting standards of establishing convenience of system and evaluating and measuring them. In order to evaluate design elements such as interior layout and arrangement of facilities, the model, of which commonness and subjectivity have been verified, should be presented. In consequence, this study going to more concretely focus on new values and sensitive technologies, application of availability and visual communication.
