Recently, there are increasing need to make a synthetic assessment about oceanic data which is collected over the various scientific field, in addition to just gathering oceanic data. In this study, we made a basic map using satellite image, aerial photo, multi-beam data, geological stratum data etc. And as well we are producing comprehensive SVT(Scientific Visualization Toolkit) which can visualize various kinds of oceanic data. These oceanic data include both survey data such as tidal height, tide, current, wave, water temperature, salinity, oceanic weather data and numeric modelling results such as ocean hydrodynamic model, wave model, erosion/sediment model, thermal discharged coastal water model, ocean water quality model. In this process, we introduce GIS(Geographic Information System) concepts to reflect time and spatial characteristics of oceanic data.

해양조사기기의 발전에 따라 수집된 해양자료를 가시화라는데 많은 문제점이 발견되고 있다. 특히 해양은 자료획득을 위한 장비 및 기술의 이용에 엄청난 경비가 소요되므로, 자료의 효율적인 활용은 무엇보다 중요하다. 대용량의 멀티빔을 이용한 해저지형 자료뿐만 아니라 중력, 지자기 등의 종합적인 해양자료를 가시화 할 수 있는 방향을 제시한다.

In Korea, Yellow sea which is located west side of korea has a between 2.8 to 8.0 m tidal range. So, Vessel Traffic Support System(VTSS) is designed to provide predicted water level, tidal elevation and tide induced current. VTSS has a 58 tidal constituents from 1 year tide observed data and 23 tidal current constituents from 1 month current data at Dang-lin P.P harbor. Predicted data visualized with graphs, vectors and stick plot. The purpose of VTSS give to information to maritime pilot for help to make decision schedule.

The surges caused by the typhoon of "Nari" which struck the southern coast of Korea are analysed in the center south sea of Korea. The maximum deviations of the water level (maximum surges) were 124~185cm in the center south during the typhoon. The major parameters of the maximum deviations of the water level are as follows : Analysis shows that the pressure drop increased the sea level by 25cm, the flood of the Sumjin River by 4~10cm and the external surge propagation and wind setup by 99~150cm.

The surges caused by the typhoon of Korea are analysed in Kwangyang Bay. The deviations of the high water level were 74~185㎝ and the maximum deviations of the water level (maximum surges) were 151~240㎝ in Kwangyang Bay during the typhoon. The major parameters of the maximum deviations of the water level are as follows : Analysis shows that the pressure drop increased the sea level by 43~59㎝, the flood of the Sumjin River by 4~5㎝ and the external surge propagation and wind setup by 97~192㎝.

Dokdo research has been worked in various fields. However, the continuous accumulation and systematic management of Dokdo research data on marine science haven't been made. In particular, a systematic database system hasn't been established for the research data on marine environment and ecosystem in Dokdo and its surrounding sea. Therefore, GIS database construction on a spatial basis is required for the systematic management and efficient use of Dokdo marine research data, and a marine data model on a GIS basis is needed on the design stage to build the database. In this study, we collected previous observed marine data, and classified them as three groups, such as a framework data group on a GIS basis, a research data group and a thematic data group, according to the data types and characteristics. Moreover, the attributes of each research data were designed to be connected to GIS framework data. The result of the study to build an integrated GIS data model may be useful for developing a management system for marine research data observed in other sea as well as Dokdo.
