Purpose : Smoking adversely affects the health of smokers and passive smoking threatens the health of people around smokers. The purpose of this review was to summarize the effect of smoking on sleep. Methods : We reviewed 430 articles on smoking and the effect of medication for smoking on sleep. These 430 articles consisted of 78 articles on the physiological effects of nicotine, 20 articles on the effects of nicotine on sleep, 56 articles on smoking related diseases provoking a sleep disorder, 183 articles on other substances (except nicotine) provoking a sleep disorder, and 93 articles on the effects of stopping smoking and medication for stopping smoking on sleep. Results : We summarized the physiological effects of nicotine on sleep, the effects of other substances such as acetaldehyde on sleep, smoking related illnesses including obstructive sleep apnea, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic rhinosinusitis, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease, depression, sleep bruxism, and restless legs syndrome, and the effects of smoking cessation on sleep. Conclusion : Research on the effect of smoking on sleep is necessary to understand the mechanism of smoking. More research on smoking, sleep, and brain mechanisms will give us a closer insight into the relationship between smoking and sleep.

본 연구에서는 경남 촌락의 현대가옥을 대상으로 지붕형태, 지붕재료, 외벽재료의 관점에서 가옥 유형을 분류하였고 각 유형과 분포에 대한 특성을 분석하였다. 기존의 연구방법인 정성적 분석 방식과 함께 정량적 통계 기법인 요인분석과 주성분분석을 촌락가옥 연구에 적용하였다. 본 연구의 조사 자료는 방대한 양의 자료이기 때문에 SPSS 24 통계 프로그램 사용하여 정량적인 방식으로 분석할 필요가 있었다. 가옥 유형과 센서스 통계 자료를 분석 변수로 선정하고 동일 요인이나 주성분으로 묶이는 변수들을 확인하여 추출된 요인 또는 주성분의 구조를 규명하 였고, 함께 적재된 통계 자료로써 해당 가옥 유형의 특성을 계량적으로 설명할 수 있었다. 가옥 유형을 대상으로 요인분석을 한 결과, 요인 1(신축 가옥 요인)은 동부도시 지역과 북서부 지역을 중심으로, 요인 2(촌락·도시 요인)는 서부 지역을 중심으로, 요인 3(내륙·해안 요인)은 북서부 지역과 동부도시 지역을 중심으로, 요인 4(평지붕 가옥 요인) 는 남서부 지역을 중심으로 우세하게 분포하였다. This study analyzes the types and distribution of modern rural housing in the Gyeongnam Province of Korea, with a special focus on the roof shapes/materials and outer wall materials. Quantitative analyses such as the factor analysis and a principal component analysis were applied along with the traditional/qualitative analysis to the study of rural housing. Due to a large quantity of information covered in this study, quantitative method using the SPSS 24 statistics program were employed for the analysis. House types and census statistical data were selected as analytical variables, while the variables classified by the same factor or principal component were identified and the structure of the extracted factor or principal component was identified. The findings gave explanation of the characteristics of the house type with statistical data loaded together. The result of the factor analysis for the types of rural housing in Gyeongnam is as follows: Factor 1 (new housing) is dominant in the eastern urban area and the northwest area; factor 2 (village, city), in western area; factor 3 (inland, coast), in the northwest area and the eastern urban area; factor 4 (flat roof housing), in the southwest area.
