In this paper, the power transmitting mechanism for negative torque of the meta] V-belt (MVB) CVT were investigated by theoretically analyzing variation of band tension, block compression forces for each of the primary and secondary pulleys. An experimental study was performed to investigate the speed ratio - thrust characteristics for negative torque. The experimental results are in good accordance witl1 tl1e theoretical results. The results of this study can be used as basic design materials for developing the CVT control system for negative torque

In this paper, simplified dynamic models of line pressure and ratio control valve are suggested for a metal belt CVT. It is seen from the simulation and experimental results that simplified models describe nonlinear characteristics quite well such as narrow duty range of the ratio control valve. Based on the dynamic models, PID and fuzzy controllers are designed for the line pressure and the ratio control. In addition, line pressure control strategy are suggested for the faster shift speed. It is found from the simulation results that faster shift speed can be achieved by increasing the line pressure.

In this paper, a simulation model to analyze performance of hybrid electric vehicle is presented. Based on dynamic models of HEV powertrain, HEV simulator is developed by modular approach. Using the simulator, control strategy of the HEV are estimated. It is found that load leveling strategy gives better fuel economy and battery sac compared with those by simple power assist strategy.

Steady state characteristics of a dry CVT system are investigated. Thrust equations of driver and driven actuator are derived including torque capacity of centrifugal type clutch in the driven actuator. Based on the thrust equations derived in this study and the existing thrust formula of the dry CVT belt, an analysis method is suggested to obtain the speed ratio for given inputs of driver speed and torque load, which is useful from the viewpoint of practical design. Theoretical results are in agreement with the experimental results, which shows validity of the analytical models of the CVT actuator derived in this paper. It is expected that the actuator models and analysis method suggested can be used for the dry CVT system

In this study, the optimized supervisory control strategy for full function parallel type hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) was developed. We adopted model-based optimal control, not often used rule-based control. This control structure and parameters were extracted from the results of local optimization using fuel equivalent factor. These local optimized results were compared with global optimized ones using dynamic programming, and it was confirmed that the operations from these two methods were very similar. Developed control strategy was validated by forward looking simulation, and now being tested on a prototype vehicle.

the newly developed electric vehicles are equipped with only single speed transmission in order to minimize the drivetrain mass, volume, cost and issue of shift quality. The cost and shift quality are main issues to extend a two or multi-speed transmission to electric vehicle even the two or multi-speed transmission provides advantages of motor size reduction and vehicle Max. speed increase as well as fuel-economy improvement compared to a single speed transmission. This paper introduces the two speed transmission using synchronizer to shift and gives feasibility study on shift quality compared to conventional Automatic transmission in compact-size electric vehicle

Dynamic characteristics of the ratio control system and line pressure control system are investigated in order to develop the control algorithm for a parallel HEV CVT . It is found that the line pressure is controlled in two ways, as high and low pressure, depending on the PWM solenoid on-off characteristics, which requires an electronic control of the line pressure corresponding to the engine and motor torque. CVT ratio can be controlled by varying stepping motor rod displacement. Simulation results show that the optimal engine operation can be achieved for the HEV by closed control of the stepping motor displacement.<br/>
