This paper describes simulation results for performance improvement of the optical sensor. Mathematical models for measuring mechanism in direction of X, Y and Z axis are presented. Based on the models, variances of sensitivity were investigated according to both parameter x? in X, Y and Z direction and x in Y and Z direction. As the results, it was found that the less x?, the higher sensitivity in the x direction. In addition, the sensitivities in the Y and Z direction are increased when x? is decreased, and x is increased. This paper shows that the optimum values of x? and x can be selected for maximum sensitivity.

The five-axis machine tools for large area machining is designed and developed by R&D center of NAMSUN. For high precision machining, the thermal characteristics of spindle system have evaluated by using ANSYS program. The heat sources of the spindle were a stator, a rotor and two bearings. The heat generation rate and the heat transfer coefficient also were calculated. The maximum temperature and the thermal deformation were 22.5℃ and 35.6㎛, respectively.
