(Background and Purpose) The complex cultural play spaces in museums for children that provide experiential learning opportunities appropriate to children’s developmental stages foster their creativity. Interaction with physical spaces is an important factor in shaping children’s experiences during particular developmental periods. In this respect, interactive design serves as a medium of communication that can shape the learning experiences and encourage the expression of creativity of users in line with their stage of development. Additionally, the importance of interactive design is being increasingly emphasized alongside increased reflections on the impact of developmental stages in relation to various types and forms of interaction in children's museums. In consideration of these factors, this study examines the characteristics of children's experiences according to their developmental stage and analyzes cases of interactive design applied to children's museums. The purpose of this study is to identify spatial elements that can provide children with interactive and experiential learning opportunities. (Method) The scope of research is limited to the experience spaces of museums for children and the four spatial factors of interactive design (concentrativeness, interactiveness, sensibility, and expandability) based on children's experience elements in relation to their developmental stage. By substituting and analyzing cases implemented in children's museums, we try to examine how these spaces should be constructed in the future to best foster children's experiences and creative thinking. (Results) In this study, the implicit language between the spatial factors and the interactive design that shapes them is explored, and reveals how these closely intertwined factors influence the development of children. Interactive design in children's museums in Korea has not changed much from the original. In addition, the spatial components of positive interactive design necessary for various experiences and creative cognitive development learning are lacking because they are expressed in a flat and repetitive manner with limited materials. Based on these results, it is necessary to create and expand interactive experience spaces that center on children and contextualize their various interactions and experiences based on the understanding of their development. (Conclusions) Children's experience spaces should be transformed into spaces that enable more active explorative and creative activities. As our understanding of learning and the development of creativity changes, there is a need for spaces that encourage a form of interactivity that can foster new experiences for children as they think and play independently. This thesis aims to play a leading role in providing the basis of developing experience spaces that can generate new ideas for spatial planning involving interactions with children to understand their developmental experiences.
