In this study, experiment and finite element analysis were studied about single lap joints using RTV88. At first, tensile test was conducted to obtain material properties of RTV88. From this test, it was proven that RTV88 is an elastomeric material and it can be modeled using Hyperfoam material model in ABAQUS. Then shear test was performed to obtain failure load and shear strength of RTV88. Finite element analysis was applied to single lap joint to analyze stress state. Finally, some physical quantities were studied as failure criteria.

A new quadrilateral plane stress element is developed for efficient and accurate analysis of thermal stress problems. It is convenient to use the same mesh and the same shape functions for thermal analysis and stress analysis. But, because of the inconsistency between deformation related strain field and thermal strain field, oscillatory responses and considerable errors in stresses are resulted in. To avoid undesired oscillations, strain approximation is enhanced by supplementing several assumed strain terms based on the variational principle. Thermal deformation is incorporated into the generalized mixed variational principle for displacement, strain and stress fields, and basic equations for the modified enhanced assumed strain method are derived. For the stress approximation of bilinear elements, the $5{\beta}$ version of Pian and Sumihara is adopted. The numerical results for several problems show that the present element behaves well and reduces oscillatory responses. it also results in almost the same magnitude of error as compared with the quadratic element.

The semi-analytic sensitivity analysis using Pade approximation is presented for linear elastic structures. Although the semi-analytic method has several advantages, accuracy of the method prevents it from practical application. One of promising remedies is the use of geometric series for the matrix inversion. Though series expansion of order three has been successfully applied to the calculation of the structural sensitivity in the most range of the design perturbation, it is prone to have a slow convergence for large perturbation. To overcome this shortage, Pade approximation is introduced so that it can broaden the trust region of the perturbation without adding expansion terms. Numerical results show that the confident sensitivity can be obtained with tiny expenses of computation effort.

Many modeling methods of representing a spot weld have developed to evaluate structural stiffuess and durability. One of the most famous methods is to use a CWELD element. The main advantages of the CWELD element are that it is able to connect a shell element to another shell element and calculate the structural stress using Rupp's method. In spite of these advantages the property of the CWELD element is influenced by many factors. But intensive research on it has been rarely done. In this research it is first found that which factors affect structural stiffness and durability. Finally, the guidelines for the affecting factors are provided.

We suggest a design method for reducing the number of spot welds in the vehicle body in terms of durability. To reduce the number of spot welds, we use the DOE(Design of Experiments) analysis with two influence indices for the durability and the fatigue life of a spot weld itself. Through the suggested design method, we select spot welds that could be removed without serious reduction of durability of the whole model. We apply this new methodology to the BIW(Body In White) model of a vehicle by choosing some practical parts where durability-related point of view must be considered importantly by experience.
크리깅 메타모델과 유전알고리즘을 이용한 신뢰도 계산 및 신뢰도기반 최적설계

In this study, effective methods for reliability estimation and reliability-based design optimization(RBDO) are proposed using kriging metamodel and genetic algorithm. In our previous study, we proposed the accurate method for reliability estimation using two-staged kriging metamodel and genetic algorithm. In this study, the possibility of applying the previously proposed method to RBDO is investigated. The efficiency and accuracy of that method were much improved than those of the first order reliability method(FORM). Finally, the effective method for RBDO is proposed and applied to numerical examples. The results are compared to the existing RBDO methods and shown to be very effective and accurate.
