The purpose of this study was to analyze and compare the feature of sports injuries of high school students and to provide the basic information for prevention of sports injuries. A total of 140 questionnaires were distributed to high school students currently registered as players in Korea Association of Athletics Federations. Each questionnaires consisted of the cause and occurrence of sports injuries, injury type, and the location of the body that the injury affected. Chi square analysis was conducted using SPSS 18.0 for windows. The results indicated that regardless of gender, event, and career, overtraining was the most important cause of sports injuries in high school athletics. Sprinters, Jumpers, and middle distance runners suffered injuries most frequently in the lower extremities compared to wight throwers who mostly injured the upper extremities due to event specific differences. Women mostly experienced the injuries in workouts; whereas men tended to sustain injuries in practices and games. The most frequently experienced injures were sprains regardless of gender, events, and career. Finally, more experienced players tended to sustain injuries during practices and games, while less experienced players were more likely to become injured in workouts. All sports need a certain level of physical fitness and technique, so participants will always be exposed to the risk of the injuries. Because sports injuries affect both athletes` performance and daily life, athletes and couches should recognize the importance of the proper prevention and treatment of the sports injuries.
