Major research areas of modern control theory are surveyed to recognize the current boundary of the theory. The literature on the tate constraints and degeneracy phenomenon of maximum principle are surveyed and their major results are reported. An example whose dynamic constraint is outside the domain of Lipschitz continuity is analyized showing new kinds of pathology. In the absence of Lipschitz condition degeneracy phenomenon occurrs without state constraints and 'blow up to infinity in finite time' type jump occurrs in adjoint variables.

Evolving relationships between the main results of dynamic programming and optimal control are surveyed Their common predecessor is the classical calculus of variations and their major results, ie, HJB equation and the maximum principle are essentially two different ways of expressing the Euler-Lagrange condition of the calculus of variations This fact is accounted by the method of charateristics that converts the PDE of HJB equation into the system of ODEs of the maximum principe. The relationship between these two methods of dynamic optimization weakens as nonsmoothness in value function is permitted and the equalities that prevailed with smoothness becomes those of inclusions

Type III odontoid fractures have been treated by several methods. In case of anteriorly displaced type III odontoid fracture which is not corrected by closed reduction, anterior screw fixation cannot be used. We report the first case of anterior screw fixation of anteriorly displaced type III odontoid fracture corrected by transoral digital manipulation.
Rapid Repeated Recurrent Lumbar Disc Herniation after Microscopic Discectomies
이도성,엄기성 대한척추신경외과학회 2011 Neurospine Vol.8 No.2
The recurrence of lumbar disc herniation after single-level discectomy is a well-known complication. Pain and neurological symptoms during the first week after surgery can be caused by missed pathology or early recurrent disc herniation. However, recurrent disc herniation that causes segmental instability after repeat operation is rare. Here, we report a case of a 42-year-old woman having a rare complication of rapid recurrent lumbar disc herniation after 2 microscopic discectomies within a short period. We suggest that rapid disc fragmentation and rapid growth of annular defect caused rapid repeated recurrence of lumbar disc herniation and segmental instability. Further investigation will be needed to identify the cause of this rapid disc degeneration.
