Fluid flow and heat transfer have been numerically investigated for an oscillating flow in a tube with a regenerator. The regenerator is placed between hot and cold spaces which are heated and cooled at uniform temperature. An oscillating flow is generated by the piston motion at both ends of a tube. The time dependent, two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations and energy equation are solved by using the finite-volume and moving grid method. The regenerator is adopted as Brinkmann-Forchheimer extended Darcy model. Numerical results are obtained for the flow and temperature fields, and described the effects of the oscillating frequency and amplitude ratio by the piston motion as well as the aspect ratio. The numerical results obtained indicate that the heat transfer between the tube wall and oscillating flow is increased as the oscillating frequency, amplitude ratio and the aspect ratio are increased.

An experimental study has been carried out to investigate the effects of the combination of the different wire mesh number in a regenerator and the tube number in a cooler on the cooling performance of a Vuilleumier cycle heat pump. Effects of operating conditions, such as charging pressure, operating speed, and heat input, on the cooling performance are also studied. The experimental results obtained indicate that the cooling performance could be improved with the proper combination of different wire meshes in a regenerator. More tubes in a cooler are desirable for better cooling performance. It is also found that the cooling capacity is enhanced, whereas COP is reduced with an increase in the heater tube temperature and the revolution speed. Both the cooling capacity and COP are incereased with a higher charging pressure.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the maximum electric production according to an inclination and a direction of the PV installation and the effects of an installation distance to module length ratio. Annual solar insolation on PV panels was calculated for various facades of two buildings, and analysis of different horizontal and vertical inclination of PV panels was also conducted considering effects of panel shading from other panels and surrounding buildings. As a result, electric production by using the PV system can be covered approximately 1% to 5% of the electric energy consumption of an office building in terms of proper combinations of installation factors which are an inclination, a module type, an installation distance to module length ratio and a direction.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the static pressure loss of exhaust fan affected by each component of kitchen ventilation system which is consisted of kitchen hood, filter, flexible or rigid duct and exhaust cap. Different kinds of each part of the kitchen ventilation system were chosen respectively among the material and components mainly installed in apartment housing. The static pressure was measured by test chamber that air flow rate is able to be controlled by 4 nozzles, inverter fan and controller. As a result, a high static pressure fan must be used in order to effectively prevent the spread of odor and air pollutant occurred in the kitchen of high air-tightness housing kitchen ventilation system because static pressure was higher than expected. If not, each part of kitchen ventilation system which static pressure loss is low will be needed.
