Since recent electronics technologies have been developed and they tend to spend huge amount of electrical power, self-powered electronics have been paid attention worldwide. To realize self-powered electronics, energy harvesting technology, which generally converts ambient energy into electrical energy, has to be introduced. Among numerous energy sources, mechanical, thermal, and electrostatic event would be of broad interest in field of energy harvesting. Here, this article introduces the promising alternative energy concepts of nanogenerator including piezoelectric, triboelectric, and hybrid types. With these nanogenerators, we are able to apply onto not only self-powered system, but expect these open green energy market.

Because of Chuetsu earthquake of magnitude 6.8 caused by unfavorable geologic structure and fault activity, various civil structures including Sinkansen superexpress railway were damaged. Currently, In many organizations in Japan, the reason and the degree of the damage of structures have been cautiously investigated using field survey, aerial photograph survey, as well as ordinary monitoring system, installed ahead of Chuetsu earthquake. In this study, a case study of damaged structures classified by structural type was reviewed using various kinds of reports which were given after Chuetsu earthquake. Especially, the detailed review for damaged tunnels, classified by load tunnel and railway tunnel, was conducted. As the results, the damage of tunnel can be caused by ground movement and geologic structure with faults which are impossible to identify through surface survey. Therefore, geologic and geotechnical characteristics of surrounding ground must be considered with conventional examination of tunnel lining structure when the detailed safety examination on maintenance work of tunnel takes place.
