This thesis is to improve the mechanical properties of carbon steel by the ion-nitriding, and post-heat treatment.<br/> The structures of ion-nitrided SM45C steel were changed to martensite by quenching from 730℃ and 8OO℃.<br/> And then a few of the quenched specimens was tempered at 200℃ for 120 min.<br/> The emphasis in this study is focussed on Comparison of hardness and fatigue strength with the ion-nitrided steel.<br/> The results obtained are summerized as follows.<br/> 1. To improve the hardness and fatigue strength of ion-nitrided steels, it is effective to under.<br/> take diffusion treatment for a short time at the austenite temperature (8OO℃).<br/> 2. If ion-nitrided steel is heated for a long time at high temperature, de-nitriding occure. <br/> 3. The quenching treatment after nitriding on the carbon steel is necessary to improve the mechanical properties of the steels.

In this paper, polishing method using bonded magnetic abrasive particle has been applied to the micro mold polishing. Through process control using the Run-to-Run control, it tried to form the surface roughness In order to grasp the influence of the surface roughness which is reached by selection of control factor and the factor, a design of experiment was been processed. The study is processed with a purpose of to embody and to maintain the surface roughness of nano scale by the basis of an influence between a control factor and the factors which has been selected in this way. As a result, the result of the process control converged at a target value of surface roughness Ra 10㎚ and Rmax 50㎚.
밀링 공구마멸과 치핑의 검출을 위한 음향방출 이용에 관한 연구

Acoustic emission(AE) signals detected during metal cutting were applied as the experimental test to sensing tool wear and chipping on the NC vertical milling machine. The in-process detection of cutting tool wear including chipping, cracking and fracture has been investigated by means of AE in spite of vibration or noise through intermittent metal cutting, then the following results were obtained 1) When the tool wear is increased suddenly, or the amplitude of AE signals changes largely, it indicated chipping or breaking of the insert tip. 2) It was confirmed that AE signal is highly sensitive to the cutting speed and tool wear. 3) At the early period of cutting, the wear were large and RMS value increased highly by the influence of minute chipping and cracking, etc. Therefore, the above situations should be considered for the time when the tool would be changed.
