이 논문은 상호의존적 가치모형에서 경매매 문제를 다루고 있다. 논문은 상호의존 가치환경에서 보수 동등성 결과를 도출하고 있으며, 또한 효율적이고 사후적 유인합치 메카니즘인 ‘일반화된 비크리 경매매 메카니즘’을 소개한다. 이러한 도구들을 이용해 논문은 효율적, 베이지안 유인합치적, 사중적 개인합리적, 사전적 예산균형적 메카니즘의 존재에 관한 필요충분조건을 제시하고 있다. 논문은 양의 상호의존성은 이러한 메카니즘의 존재를 더욱 어렵게 하는 반면, 음의 상호의존성은 더욱 쉽게 한다는 점도 보이고 있다. We study the double auction problem with interdependent values. We establish a payoff equivalence result for this environment. We also introduce the generalized Vickrey double auction which is an efficient and ex-post incentive compatible mechanism for the interdependent values environment. Using these tools, we find a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of an efficient, Bayesian incentive compatible, interim individually rational, and ex-ante budget balancing mechanism. We show that positive interdependence makes the existence harder, while negative interdependence makes it easier.

본 논문은 가치함수의 정의역이 제약적인 경우 동태적 그로브즈 메카니즘의 유일성에 관한 필요충분조건을 고찰한다. 본 논문은 우선 각 기간 배분가치함수의 기대할인합인, 따라서 정태적 가치함수의 동태적 대응인 총가치함수를 적절하게 정의한 후, 다음으로 정태적 그로브즈 메카니즘의 결과들을 동태적 상황에 적용하는 방법론을 취하고 있다. This paper examines necessary and sufficient conditions for the uniqueness of dynamic Groves mechanisms when the domain of valuations is restricted. Our approach is to appropriately define the total valuation function, which is the expected discounted sum of each period’s valuation function from the allocation and thus a dynamic counterpart of the static valuation function, and then to port the results for static Groves mechanisms to the dynamic setting.

본 논문은 비대칭적 가입자기반이 존재하는 과점시장에서의 단일제품 판매관련 단순 수량할인의 경제적 효과를 살펴본다. 기업들이 모두 수량할인을 하는 경우 가입자기반이 큰 기업의 단독가격은 상승하고 가입자 기반이 작은 기업의 단독가격은 변화가 없다. 그리고, 가입자기반이 큰 기업의 이윤은 수량할인에도 불구하고 증가하고 가입자 기반이 작은 기업의 이윤은 수량할인의 영향으로 감소한다. 전자의 이윤 증가폭이 후자의 이윤 감소폭보다 커서 기업전체의 이윤은 증가한다. 더불어, 소비자 후생은 감소한다. 한편, 가입자 기반이 작은 기업만 수량할인을 하는 경우에는 기업 전체의 이윤은 감소하고 소비자 후생은 증가한다. 다음으로, 가입자 기반이 큰 기업의 한계비용이 경쟁기업에 비해 상당히 낮은 경우에는 기업들이 모두 수량할인을 하는 경우에도 기업 전체의 이윤은 감소하고 소비자 후생은 증가한다. We examine the effects of quantity discounts when two firms have asymmetric installed base in a single product market. We show that the stand-alone price of the firm with large (small, resp.) installed base increases (remains constant, resp.), the profits of the former (the latter, resp.) increase (decrease, resp.), industry profits increase, but consumer surplus decreases. We also show that industry profits decrease whereas consumer surplus increases if (i) only the firm with small installed base can practice quantity discount or (ii) the firm with large installed base has a sufficiently big cost advantage.

Economic Analysis of FRAND Commitment

본 논문은 표준설정기구(standard-setting organization)의 특허 선정시 적정한 사후적(ex-post) 로열티수준 판단방안으로 논의되고 있는 Swanson and Baumol(2005)의 사전경매(ex-ante auction) 모형을 바탕으로 표준선정의 효과를 분석하였다. 하류시장이 꾸르노(Cournot) 수량경쟁 상태인 과점 모형을 설정한 후, 표준설정기구가 하류기업들의 이윤을 기준으로 특허 선정하는 경우와 사회후생을 기준으로 특허 선정하는 경우를 비교·분석하였으며, 특히 사회후생이 후자의 경우 오히려 낮아질 수 있음을 보였다. 또한, 상류 특허권자들과 하류시장 기업들이 독립적인 경우와 더불어 수직 통합되어 있는 경우도 같이 분석함으로써 균형결과들이 어떻게 달라지는지 살펴보았다. This paper provides an economic analysis of reasonable royalty rates when the patents are selected by a standard-setting organizations (SSOs). Based on the ex-ante auction model proposed by Swanson and Baumol (2005) for determining reasonable rates for FRAND (fair, reasonable and nondiscriminatory) commitment, this paper analyzes and compares the equilibrium outcomes when the SSO selects a standard by profit criterion and by social welfare criterion. It is shown that the social welfare may be lower when the patents are selected to maximize the social welfare rather than to maximize the profits. This paper deals with the case when the upstream patent holders are independent as well as the case when they are vertically integrated with the downstream firms.

본 논문은 인터넷 상호접속에서 인터넷 서비스 사업자의 협상력을 결정하는 요인에 대한 분석을 담고 있다. 인터넷은 기술적, 제도적, 그리고 이용 측면에서 전통적인 통신산업과 매우 다른 특징을 가지고 있기 때문에 상호접속 정산문제에서도 새로운 접근을 요구한다. 본 논문은 인터넷 이용에 있어서는 통신욕구와 더불어 정보욕구도 중요한 요인임을 지적한다. 그리고, 인터넷의 특징을 반영한 사실적인 모형을 구성하여 시장구조 및 인터넷 컨텐츠 유료화가 상호접속 협상력에 미치는 영향을 분석하고, 현실적인 합의를 도출한다. This paper analyzes factors that determine the bargaining power in Internet interconnection. Since the Internet is different from traditional telecommunications industries in technical, institutional, and usage aspects, we need a fresh approach to interconnection arrangements. This paper emphasizes that information needs as well as communications needs play a major role in the Internet. Consequently, the bargaining outcome is critically dependent on micro-payments for the Internet contents as well as market structure.

An Anti-Folk Theorem for Random Matching Games

This paper provides a negative answer to the possibility of cooperation in random matching games. we prove an anti-folk theorem which asserts: If an action profile satisfies the No Reward Condition, then there does not exist a sequential equilibrium in which the given action profile is played in each period of the equilibrium path.
