The objective of this study is to develope ground heat exchanger using PHC pile used to building foundation, and it's element technology. So we made PHC piles into ground heat exchanger and evaluate it's performance. First, we studied PHC pile type, heat exchanger pipe, grouting materials, and present apartment house's foundation condition for PHC ground heat exchanger. As a result we designed BIGS (Building Integrated Geothermal System) prototype. Second, we applied BIGS to apartment houses' utility building in Osan built by Daelim. Third, we monitored heating performance of winter season. The result of heating performance was so good to apply to heat & cooling system in building.

The objective of this study is to develope ground heat exchanger using PHC file used to building foundation, and it's element technology. So we construct PHC ground heat exchanger in the apartment house's PHC foundation and evaluate it's performance, First, we study PHC file type, heat exchanger pipe, grouting materials, and present apartment house's foundation condition for PHC ground heat exchanger and design it's proto type. Second according to grouting materials, we estimate construction convenience, and it's performance. Construction convenience side, PB 22 A pipe and sand grouting with moisture was good for PHC ground heat exchanger elements. Experiment result is very superior. Thermal conductivity B, C type(sand, gravel) was respectively 32.4 W/m℃, 36.5 W/m℃, D(concrete) Type 27.8 W/m℃, E(bentonite) Type 19.6 W/m℃. Thermal interference for 4 day experiment period in 3.8 m was very small. So PHC file is good for using ground heat exchanger.

Although high-rise apartments are beneficial to increase land use, open space, fine view, and so forth, it induces people to concentrate in cities and causes traffic problem. And, the lower stories of those apartments are difficult to obtain sunlight for minimum 4 hours in the daytime while the upper stories of them can receive sufficient sunlight regardless of seasons or times. The purpose of this study was to present the method which can be used for evaluating sunlight conditions in design and using phase of apartments by surveying individual houses. In this study, it is produced the shadow analysis program with Auto Lisp that can plot shadows on a CAD drawing by calculating solar altitude, azimuth, declination and equation of time. To examine the seasonal effect of shadow, three-dimensional building shape and shadow were illustrated using the rendering method. Because this shadow analysis program with Auto Lisp can show directly building shadows on a drawing, it is useful to perceive the accurate pattern and area of shadow. And, the Auto CAD rendering method can express seasonal changes of shadow in apartment complex. Therefore, by using two methods properly, it is helpful to predict precise time of sunlight and shadow in design and using phase of buildings.

The fire resistance of thermal insulation and interior finishing materials is recently much emphasized after the fire accident at the Icheon Cold Store in January 2008. Three kinds of thermal insulation are used in buildings. They are Organic, Non-organic and cellulosic insulation. Organic insulation such as polystyrene foam board and urethane foam has high thermal resistance but it has no fire resistance. While non-organic insulation such as rockwool and glassfiber has high fire resistance, it has lower thermal resistance than organic insulation. Cellulose insulation is primarily manufactured from recycled newsprint or cardboard using shredders and fiberizers. Despite of its environmental friendliness and high thermal resistivity, its domestic use has not much increased bemuse of the prejudice that paper can easily bum. However, the cellulose insulation as a product is about 80 wt.% cellulosic fiber and 20 wt.% chemicals, most of which are fire retardants such as boric acid and ammonium sulfate. It is required to secure its fire safety for more consumption as a building insulation in Korea. Therefore, this study investigates the fire resistance of Korean cellulose insulation according to the rote of fire retardant and finally presents the optimum rote of fire retardant in cellulose as building insulation. The fire safety test was conducted according to the ASTM C 1485-00. The test results indicate that above 18 wt% of fire retardant is necessary to secure the fire safety of cellulose insulation.

Cellulose insulation for use in building applications is primarily manufactured from recycled newsprint or cardboard using shredders and fiberizers. Cellulose insulation as a product is about 80 wt.% cellulosic fiber and 20 wt.% chemicals, most of which are fire retardants such as boric acid and ammonium sulfate. It was introduced into Korea in the 1980s when several small companies started production. The cellulose industry in Korea is in an early stage of development with current production of about 1000 tons a year. On the other hand, in North America, cellulose insulation has been used since the 1940s and many studies have been done to improve its physical properties and performance. About 750,000 tons of paper has been recycled as cellulose insulation annually for the past two years in the U.S. That would imply a production volume of about 940,000 tons of cellulose insulation per year. For broader use of cellulose insulation in buildings in Korea, it is necessary to establish its thermal performance. To this end, the effect of density and temperature on the thermal conductivity of loose-fill cellulose insulation manufactured in Korea and U.S. was recently studied.
