Recent trend in apartment buildings is to reduce interior load-bearing walls to improve spatial flexibility and ease of remodeling. This study investigates the seismic performance and cost of apartment buildings as a function of spatial flexibility. According to nonlinear analysis results, shear wall type apartment buildings show superb seismic performance. Combined wall and column-slab type buildings with improved spacial flexibility can also be designed to satisfy current seismic design code. In low-rise apartment buildings wall-type structures, combined structures, and flat slab structures require similar amount of structural materials to satisfy the design loads. However as the number of story increases the structural materials, especially reinforcing steel, rapidly increase in flat-slab buildings.

The objective of this study is to investigate the progressive collapse potential of reinforced concrete moment frame structures considering geometric nonlinearity. To this end 3-, 6-, and 15-story RC moment frames were designed as analysis model structures with and without considering seismic load, and their progressive collapse potentials were investigated by performing nonlinear static and dynamic analyses. It was observed from the analysis results that the catenary action is activated by the reinforcing steel and is proportional to the amount of the reinforcement. It was also observed that the amount of stirrup affects the onset of the catenary action and the progressive collapse behavior at large deformation. According to the nonlinear dynamic analysis results the structures not designed for seismic load turned out to be highly vulnerable for progressive collapse, whereas the structures designed considering seismic load showed superior performance against progressive collapse.
내진 및 연쇄붕괴 저항성능 향상을 위한 기존 구조물의 효율적인 보강방법에 관한 연구

Passive energy dissipation devices (PEDD) are generally used to reduce structural responses caused by earthquake or wind loads. This study presents combined system of rotational friction damper connected to cables to enhance both seismic and progressive collapse resisting capacity of existing structures. To this end 3-, 6-, and 15-story RC moment frames were designed considering only gravity loads. Rotational friction dampers were designed according to the capacity spectrum method (CSM) to satisfy given performance objectives against seismic load. Nonlinear dynamic analysis results showed that the structures retrofitted by rotational friction dampers showed superior performance against seismic load especially in the 3-story structure. It was also observed that the retrofitted structures showed more stable behavior against progressive collapse.

According to nonlinear analysis results, shear wall type apartment buildings show superb seismic performance. However for low to medium-rise apartment buildings, the combined system of shear wall and flat plate with improved spacial flexibility can also be designed to satisfy current seismic design code without difficulty. In low-rise apartment buildings wall-type structures, combined structures, and flat plate structures require similar amount of structural materials to satisfy the design loads. However as the number of story increases the structural materials, especially reinforcing steel, rapidly increase in flat plate buildings.

In this study, a method was developed to confirm the deposition reproducibility of the magnetic layer thickness through the magnetic domain wall velocity analysis in the perpendicular magnetic thin film. We analyzed the effect of magnetic layer thickness and magnetic anisotropy on the magnetic domain wall motion occurring in a perpendicular magnetic thin film composed of Pt/Co/Pt. It was confirmed that the creep scaling constant (α) changed rapidly in the thickness regime of the magnetic layer where perpendicular magnetic anisotropy was formed. Using this, it is possible to check the change of α with respect to the change in the thickness of the magnetic layer of several A.
