Thisstudyprovideddatathatcanbeusedtodiscriminateasbestiformandnon-asbestiformamphibolescontainedinlandscapingrocksinrecreationalparks.Thelengthandwidthoffibersbeingatleast5μmlongandwithaminimumaspectratioof3:1weremeasuredusingatransmissionelectronmicroscopeandcomparedtoanasbestosreferencesample.Theparksampleswerethickerthan1μm(average1.9μm),whiletheHealthandSafetyExecutive(HSE)referencesampleaveraged0.3μminwidth,with100%beingthinnerthan1.0μm.Theaverageaspectratioswere7.1fortheparksamplesand67.1fortheHSEreferencesample.Basedonthesedistributions,theamphibolefibersinsampledlandscaperockswerethickerandhadaloweraspectratiothanthereferencesample.Theseresultssuggestthatactinolitefibersinsampledlandscaperockscannotbeclassifiedintocommercial-gradeasbestos.Thisstudycancontributetopublicpolicyformanagingandcontrollinglandscapingrockscontainingnaturallyoccurringasbestos(NOA)andbeusedtocommunicatethepossibleresultinghealthrisks.
