In the injection molding of plastic optical lenses, the molding conditions have critical effects on the quality of the molded lenses. Since there are many molding parameters involved in injection molding process, determination of the molding conditions for lens molding is very important in order to precisely control the surface contours of an optical lens. Therefore this paper presents the application of neural network in suggesting the optimized molding conditions for improving the quality of molded parts based on data of FE Analysis carried out through CAE software, Timon-3D. Suggested model in this paper, which serves to learn from the data of FE Analysis and induce the values for optimized molding conditions, has been implemented for searching the molding conditions without void and with minimized thickness shrinkage at lens center of injection molding optical lens. As the result of this study, we have confirmed that void creation at the inside of lens is primarily determined by mold temperature and thickness shrinkage at center of lens is primarily determined by the parameters such as holding pressure and mold temperature.

This paper has been focused in developing of plastic lens with ultra-precision and low birefringence ability using by injection molding simulation tools. The simulation tools, 3D-Timom™ and Asu-Mold™ were applied to visualize indirectly the flow pattern of melted polymer enter the mould and the simulation results are verified as compared with the experimental results. Birefringence and polarized light generated in injection molding process was also calculated for each injection conditions and compared with .the pictures of experimented optical lens go through the polarized light plates device. A spherical radius of plastic optical lens transcribed from profile of mould core surface was measured to estimate the geometrical accuracy for the each injection conditions. It is confirmed that the simulation results about flow pattern and polarized light area coincided in experimental results. It is known that increasing in thickness shrinkage at center of lens, the spherical radius is larger from comparing the graph measured spherical radius and the thickness shrinkage at center of lens.

This study has been focused on application of ELID mirror-surface grinding technology for manufacturing single crystal optic sapphire. Single crystal sapphire is a superior material with optic properties of high performance as light transmission, thermal conductivity, hardness and so on. Mirror-surface machining technology is necessary to use sapphire as optic parts. The ELID grinding system has been set up for machining of the sapphire material. According to the ELID experimental results, it shows that the surface of sapphire can be eliminated by metal bonded wheel with micron abrasives and the surface roughness of 60nmRa can be gotten using grinding wheel of 2,000 mesh in 4.5um, depth of cut. In this study, the chemical experiments after ELID grinding also has been conducted to check chemical reaction between workpiece and grinding wheel on ELID grinding process. It shows that the chemical reaction has not happened as the results of the chemical experiments.

This study focused on the application of ELID mirror-surface grinding technology to the manufacture of off-axis asymmetric large-area reflecting mirrors made of BK7 glass. The size of the parts, such as asymmetric large-area mirrors or lens, made form-accuracy or roughness especially hard to measure after machining because of the measuring range limit of measurement devices. In this study, the ELID grinding system has been set up for mirror-surface machining experiments manufacturing off-axis asymmetric lenses. A measuring method using a reference workpiece has been suggested to measure the form-accuracy and roughness. According to the experimental results, even when using only a reference workpiece, it is confirmed that the surface roughness was 8 nmRa and form-accuracy was 80 nmRMS, with a best fit asymmetric radius when using a grinding wheel of #8,000. It is found that the accuracy of large-area parts could be estimated by the proposed process.

This study has been focused on application of ELID lapping process for mirror-surface machining of sapphire wafer. Sapphire wafer is a superior material with optic properties of high performance as light transmission, thermal conductivity, hardness and so on. High effective surface machining technology is necessary to use sapphire as various usages. The interval ELID lapping process has been set up for lapping of the sapphire material. According to the ELID lapping experimental results, it shows that 12.5 kg of load for lapping is most pertinent to ELID lapping. the surface of sapphire can be eliminated by metal bonded wheel with micron abrasives and the surface roughness of 60 nmRa can be gotten using grinding wheel of 2,000 mesh in 4.5 um, depth of cut. In this study, the chemical experiments after ELID grinding also has been conducted to check chemical reaction between workpiece and grinding wheel on ELID grinding process.
