In order to predict the motions of a planing hull in waves, it is necessary to accurately estimate the force components acting on the hull such as the hydrodynamic force, buoyancy, and friction, as well as the wave exciting force. In particular, based on strip theory, hydrodynamic forces can be estimated by the summation of the forces acting on each cross-section of the hull was mathematically developed by Zarnick, and his formula had been used to predict the vertical motions of prismatic planing hulls in regular waves. In this study, several improvements were added to Zarnick`s formula to predict the vertical motions of warped planing hulls. Based on calm water model test results, the buoyancy force and moment correction coefficient were modified. Further improvements were made I the pile-up correction. Pile-up correction factors were changed according to variations of the deadrise angles using the results found in previous research. Using the same hull form, captive model tests were carried out in other recent research, and the results were compared with present calculation results. The comparison showed reasonably good agreements between the model tests and present calculations.

The purpose of this study is to develop the auxiliary rehabilitation device for a patient of spinal curvature. The adolescent diopathic scoliosis(AIS) must be treated by rehabilitation brace if Cobb angle is 20°~40°. The rehabilitation brace is consist of 4 vest and 2 hinge parts (hinge and couple bar) that give a force to the ribs. But thin and light hinge parts for young patient failed easily because of unusual movement of the upper body. We studied optimum design and structural analysis of hinge parts when it distorted by tensile and bending force. The specimen of hinge parts were tested to evaluate the failure strength. And we attached circuits with memory and sensor detecting pressure and displacement to recoding stress in hinge parts. These data are used to alarm the patient to stop unusual movement and understand the load history.

The purpose of this study is to obtain the data related with the relationship between AE signal characteristics and mechanical behaviors and to examine the residual stress at weld region. Residual stress at weld region was obtained using a hole drilling method and AE test was carried out under four point bending load. Among AE signals, counts and signal strength are used to find out meaning of destructive mechanics. Relationships between plastic zone size and AE counts were investigated. Residual stress of the weldment and PWHT specimens consist of positive and negative values respectively. Regardless of the specimens, as the plastic zone size at notch tip grows, cumulative AE counts increases until some distance. AE signals were absent within an elastic region, regardless of the specimens. Maximum signal strength of the weldment was the highest, followed by PWHT specimen and basemetal.
