엘리자베스 펠프스의 금주 소설을 통해 본 금주 운동의 의의

본 논문은 엘리자베스 펠프스의 세 편의 금주 소설을 통해 금주 운동의 성과를 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 기독교 사회주의자였던 펠프스는 금주 운동가였고 그녀의 금주 소설들은 이러한 관심사를 표현한다. 금주 운동에 대한 그녀의 관심은 하층민과 여성의 삶에 대한 관심과 일맥상통한다. 『친구들: 듀엣』은 릴라이언스 스트롱이라는 이름의 젊은 여성의 이야기다. 그녀는 중산층 여성으로서 보호받는 삶을 살았지만 금주 운동에 참여함으로써 자신의 가치를 발견하고 삶의 의미를 찾는다. 소설은 금주 모임에서 벌어지는 사건들을 긍정적인 시각으로 그려내 독자들이 금주 운동에 대해 우호적 태도를 갖도록 한다. 『어부 잭 이야기』는 술이 잭의 삶을 어떻게 파괴하는지에 초점을 맞춘다. 이 소설은 술의 위험에 대해 독자들에게 경고하는 역할을 하며, 교육과 환경의 중요성을 강조한다. 『특이한 삶』은 금주 운동을 위해 자신의 삶을 바치는 한 성직자의 이야기를 다룬다. 주인공 베이어드는 술로 인해 삶이 망가진 사람들을 돌보고, 사람들이 술을 마시지 못하도록 마을 술집을 폐쇄하려고 한다. 그는 이런 노력으로 인해 목숨을 잃는다. 술의 생산과 유통을 막으려는 그의 시도는 궁극적으로 금주 운동가들이 원했던 것이었고 이 시도는 수정헌법 18조인 금주법으로 결실을 보았다. 금주법이 14년 만에 폐지된 것은 금주법 자체의 문제를 보여준다. 그럼에도 불구하고 당시 상황에서 금주 운동이 왜 필요했는지, 술로 인한 폐해가 어떠한지, 금주 운동가들이 그 현실을 바꾸기 위해 어떤 노력을 기울였는지를 생생하게 그린 그녀의 금주 소설들은 위대한 성취로 기억되어야 한다. This paper examines the significance of the temperance movement through Elizabeth Phelps’s three temperance novels. As a Christian socialist, Phelps was an activist for the temperance movement and her novels embody this interest of hers. Her interest in the temperance movement is in line with her interest in the lives of the working class and women. Friends: A Duet is a story of a young woman named Reliance Strong. She has lived a sheltered life, but by participating in the temperance movement, she discovers her value and finds meaning in her life. The novel paints the events in the temperance meeting in a positive light, which makes readers receptive to the temperance movement itself. Jack the Fisherman focuses on how alcohol ruins the protagonist’s life. The novel serves as a warning to the reader about the dangers of alcohol, and emphasizes the importance of one’s education and environment. A Singular Life deals with the story of a clergyman who dedicates his life for the temperance movement. The clergyman looks after those whose lives have been ruined by alcohol and tries to shut down town bars to prevent people from drinking. His life gets threatened, and he eventually loses his life because of these efforts. His attempt to close down bars and to take alcohol out of circulation was ultimately what the temperance activists wanted. This attempt came to fruition with the Prohibition. The repeal of the Prohibition just after 14 years reveals the problems of the Prohibition itself. Nevertheless, Phelps’s temperance novels, which vividly depict why the temperance movement was necessary at the time, what the evils of alcohol were, and what efforts the temperance activists made to change that reality, should be remembered as great achievements.

『제철공장에서의 삶』 - 중산계급 여성 화자의 역할

  This paper analyses the role of the narrator in Life in the Iron Mills(1861). The class issue is very important in this novella, which is called the first work to deal with the working class in the American literary history. It is critical to understand the characteristics of this "middle-class" "female" narrator to get a better understanding of the issue. In this novella, the main narrative is the story of the two working class people, Hugh and Deborah. To tell readers the story, Davis created a narrator and a listener(or listeners) who are middle class people. Thanks to their presence and the story frame, readers are presented with the views and ideologies of middle or high class Americans about lower class people, as well as the miserable state of the working class in 1860"s.<BR>  The narrator is very critical and poignant in depicting high or middle class Americans when showing us what typical middle-class Americans say and how they act. This was possible because she was from the same class, which she was very familiar with. On the other hand, she has some limits in presenting working class people. The working class life is described only as dirty, ignorant and full of crimes. She doesn"t relate the working class life to positive traits like adherence to real life and the fulfilling of true value of labor. She presents labor as something to get over to live a meaningful life.<BR>  In the story the worker-artist Hugh Wolfe doesn"t seem to be a type of the working class but an exception of it. In some sense he is a projection of a female artist who is also unprivileged in the society. The author is sympathetic to him when she describes his despair as an artist. But she shows us him to be rather cold and unfeeling, in which he is contrasted with Deborah, the heroine. Davis seems to approve her power of sympathy and affection.<BR>  When showing Deborah"s emotions and values, the narrator reveals her middle class sensitivity. It is also notable that Davis created a realistic and healthy type of working class woman rather than conventional one, which is one of Davis"s great achievements.<BR>  In a sense, this story is not about the working class itself, but about the way in which the middle class people react to working class people. Davis is honest and realistic in that matter. She shows the middle class people as they are and that becomes her self-assessment. That is one of the reasons why Life in the Iron Mills is a great work.

최근 기존의 차량 내부 네트워크의 한계점을 해결하고 운전자의 편의성을 증진할 뿐만 아니라 나아가 자율주행자동차 개발에 있어 핵심이 되는 기술로 차량 이더넷에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행 중이다. 자동차 산업계에서는 기존의 버스 토폴로지에 비해 차량 이더넷의 늘어난 대역폭으로 기존에 불가능했던 기능을 실현할 수 있을 것으로 전망하고 있다. 하지만 자동차에 이더넷을 적용하기 전에 차량 이더넷이 보안상 안전한지 검증할 필요가 있다. 본 논문에서는 최근 차량 이더넷 기술 및 보안 표준화 현황에 대하여 조사하였으며, 추가로 차량이더넷 환경에서의 보안기술 연구들을 3가지 카테고리로 분류하였다. 또한 차량 이더넷 환경에서의 갖춰야할 보안전략에 대하여 서술하였다. 차량 보안을 위해서는 이더넷 보안뿐만 아니라 차량의 개발단계에서부터 보안을 고려한 설계를 하고 부품별 특화된 보안기술 적용 및 주행 시의 발생된 트래픽 분석을 위한 환경까지 차량 전반에 걸친 보안 기술이 필요함을 제시하였다.

Isabel Archer is a typical American in the sense that she is innocent, ignorant of evil, and has a keen moral sense. Most of all, she makes much of her own self. For this reason, many critics argue that Emerson is reflected in Isabel Emersonian transcendentalism has a great influence on her, so that she maintains that the individual is opposed to society and that the self should predominate over circumstances. Emersonian traits affect her action, particularly in her choice of husband. Even after Isabel realizes the true nature of her husband and learns that Osmond married her for money, she does not abandon the responsibility of marriage. Many critics think that the decision is the result of her mental growth. Granting that her final decision is the indication of her development in a sense, It seems more persuasive to argue that she did not change much in other respects. Her real problem in the choice of her husband was not so much ignorance of reality as repression of instinct and spontaneous emotion. At the final stage, her mind and will power is even stronger than before. She puts absolute emphasis on her self at the cost of the harmomous relationship of the self and the outer world. The same can be said of Emerson Critics argue that Emerson radically changes from a naive idealist into a mature pragmatist. However, It seems that his change, like Isabel`s, is not fundamental. Emerson simply became more shrewd but did not realize that his self-oriented attitude was the real problem.

파워요트를 위한 선형 및 의장 모델링 도구 개발

본 논문에서는 파워요트의 설계에 있어 모델링 기능을 수행하는 소프트웨어 애플리케이션을 개발하기 위한 연구를 수행하였다. 이 애플리케이션은 선형을 모델링하는 모듈과 의장 설계 및 구조 스캔틀링 모듈을 포함한다. 본 파워요트에 최적화된 애플리케이션의 모델링 프로세스는 다른 일반 상선과 다른 파워요트의 특성치를 반영하여 이를 기반으로 구성되었다. 또한 Unigraphics NX 의 3D CAD 기능을 사용하도록 OpenNX API 를 사용하여 개발되었다.
