Approaches to the Syntheses of Partially Reduced Imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines

Two synthetic pathways to substituted hexahydroimidazo[1,2-a]pyridines, which may serve as precursors of aza-alkaloids, were investigated. The first involves the condensation of a bisnucleophilic enediaminoester and a biselectrophile. The second involves attachment to nitrogen of the carbon chain skeleton required to form the six-memberd ring, before formation of the enediaminoester. Several substituted hexahydroimidazo[1,2- a]pyridines were synthesized via these two approaches.

Since Nafion is very expensive and shows the decreased fuel cell performance over80 C operating temperature, much work has been carried out in the search for cheaper membranewith high fuel cell performance. Radiation is known to be very useful for the preparation of thepolymer electrolyte membranes since it can be effectively used for the introduction of ion conductingfunctional groups into the commercial film with high mechanical and chemical properties. Here, we summarize the our recent progress in the development of fuel cell membranes by utilizingradiation.
