The cells of Rubia cordifolia var. pratensis were transformed by Agrobactrium tumefaciens strain 11157. Surface-sterilized young leaves and stems of the plants were cocultivated with bacterial suspensions. Crown galls induced from stems were cultured with variation of culturing conditions and compared with untransformed cells. The growth rates and production of anthraquinone pigments of cells were remarkably improved by transformation. Furthermore, hairy roots were induced by inoculation or cocultivation with Agrobacterium rhizogenes strains.

The essential oils of Lycopus lucidus have been studied. The essential oil obtained from the dried herba by steam distillation followed by fractionation by column chromatography was analysed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS). The compounds identified by GC-MS were carvacrol, 2,5-dimethoxy-p-cymene, trans-caryophyllene, spathurenol and $trans-{\beta}-farnesene$. Two compounds, thymol and caryophyllene were isolated by silica gel column chromatography and analyzed by TLC, IR, Mass and NMR. And the weak diuretic effects of essential oil and water extract from the dried drugs were observed in rats.

The essential oil fraction of Chrysanthemum sibiricum Turcz. (Compositae) was analysed by means of TLC and GLC. Utilizing silicagel column chromatography, a blue-color compound was isolated, and purified by preparative TLC. The obtain compound had the same Rf-value on TLC and exactly same UV-visible and IR spectra with that of chamazulene isolated from Matricaria chamomilla L. The composition of the essential oil was also compared with those from flowers of Chrysanthemum indicum L. and Chrysanthemum morifolim Ramatuella.

국화과에 속하는 Solidago속 식물의 정유가 꽃, 잎, 줄기등 이 식물 전 기관에 분포되어있는 이생세포간극에 함유되어 있다는 사실에 기초를 두고, 선기능을 가진 세포들이 일반세포에 비해 강한 dehydrogenase활성을 나타낸다는 사실을 이용하여 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazoliumchloride를 써서 분비강주변의 세포들의 선기능을 조직화학적으로 증명하였다.

The young leaf of Perilla species was cultured by two stage culture system using the medium containing mevalonic acid lactone. The growth rate and productivity of essential oil of callus were increased. The essential oil from intact plant and callus was also analysed. Sesquiterpene hydrocarbons and one sesquiterpene alcohol were identified in essential oils of callus.

Callus was derived from the leaves of Perilla frutescens var. acuta which is commonly cultivated in Korea. It has been found that the light decreased the growth rate of the callus but rather increased the contents of essential oils. The addition of one ppm of l-naphthyl acetic acid and 5ppm of kinetin in the medium caused the increased production of essential oils.

The essential oil fraction of Leonurus sibiricus was analyzed by TLC and gas chromatography. By utilizing silica gel column, a ketone compound, m.w. 167, was isolated from the essential oil. The essential oil showed considerably the diuretic action, but the water extract exhibited weak action. This diuretic action of the water extract was potentiated by combined administration of essential oil. On the isolated rabbit`s uterus the essential oil decreased spontanous movement and showed relaxation.

식물체로부터 휘발성 정유를 획득하여 개개의 구성성분을 순수물질로 분리하기까지. 그리고 완전분리되기 이전 그대로의 상태로 그 조성을 규명하는 과정에 대해서는 그동안 많은 연구가 진행되어 왔고 그결과 오늘날에는 거의 하나의 궤도에 가까울 만큼 보편적인 분석법이 수립되어 있다. 그러나 정유가 가진 물리화학적인 특성, 예를 들어 강한 휘발성 및 불안정성, 성분상호간의 분자구조상의 유사성등은 일면 분석상의 유리한 점을 가져올 수도 있으나 그보다 순수성분 분리상의 난점, 실험과정중에 생기는 성분의 전환 및 파괴 그에 따른 실험결과에 대한 신빙도등은 정유분석에 여러가지 문제점을 안겨준다. 이에 최근에 개발된 새로운 정유미량분석법 및 기존 정유분석법의 맹점 및 난점을 보완할 수 있는 몇가지 방법을 소개한다.

국화과 식물 Solidago canadensis L.의 정유성분을 분석하였다. 특히 이 식물의 정유성분은 80% 이상이 C와 H로만 구성된 순수한 탄화수소(Hydrocarbon)화합물들 인데 이것은 극성이 거의 같아서 일반적인 분석방법으로는 그 성분들의 분리가 어려운바, 최근 개발된 AgNO₃로 impregnation시킨 TLC 및 preparative gaschromatography와 spinningband를 이용한 micro분획증류등의 방법으로 분석 비교하였다.

Callus was derived from the seedlings of Agastache rugosa(Labiatae). The growth rate of callus and the production of essential oil were studied with the variation of culturing conditions. 2, 4-D 2 ppm in the medium was more effective for the production of essential oil than NAA 2 ppm. The growth rate of callus and the production of essential oil were inhibited by the illumination of the light. The essential oils from Agastache rugosa and the callus cultivated on the medium containing 2, 4-D 2 ppm and kinetin 0.2 ppm were analysed by TLC, gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. These two oils showed different compositions. The main component of the plant oil, methyl chavicol was not contained in the callus oil.
