Because diesel generator excitation systems in the nuclear power generating station are included among safety related classes(and Class 1E), they have been supposed to apply in the nuclear power generating stations through equipment qualification by nuclear law and so on. So, they has been controlled and assured completely by quality assurance throughout the total development journey. This paper looks into the journey of development of diesel generator excitation systems in the nuclear power generating station.

The excitation system for nuclear emergency diesel generator has been developed and is commercially operating now. The characteristics are triple modular redundant controllers, double redundant rectifiers and digital system, comparing the existing(and removed) system.

Generation cooperations have focused on active power directly related to economic value. So, utility cooperation have taken expense to stabilize power system, although generator has responded quickly with variation of power system voltage and is controlled at real time. As a reactive power source, it is necessary for generator's capabilities to be verified. But domestic generators scarcely have been tested and operated to reactive power capability. In case of power system fault, operators would not quickly take a follow-up actions about reactive power disturbance. Therefore generator reactive power capability verification strategy must be developed, several generators is tested as examples since 2004. This paper is extracted from the test results.

발전소 통합감시제어시스템의 MBC 개발 로직 실계통 적용

Because the existing control system has been operating for about 20 years, it is necessary to upgrade the system for stable and efficient operation. But, there is a difficulty in maintenance by difference of manufacturer of each main control systems for boiler, turbine and generator. This developed IMCS(Integrated Monitoring and Control System) consists of more than 10,000 inputs and outputs for large scale thermal power plant. This paper consists of the development journey of IMCS MBC(mill and burner control) ; core binary protection & monitoring logic including prevention circuit of boiler explosion & implosion. In this project, the IMCS for boiler, turbine and generator was developed on basis of one communications platform. In this paper, the whole journey of development of IMCS MBC is dealt with designing software and hardware, coding application software, and validating software and hardware.
