A test of the 1/3 scale model was conducted to verify the tip-over analysis of a dry. concrete storage cask under a hypothetical accident condition. The tip-over analysis was executed using the velocity at each point as the initial conditions of the model just before the impact. The initial velocity was determined from the initial angular velocity, which would make the equivalent kinetic energy to the potential energy. To confirm the structural integrity of the canister, the visual testing and the non-detective testings such as Liquid Penetrant testing and Ultrasonic Testing were conducted. The lid of a storage cask was plastically deformed near the impact point. The structural integrity of storage cask was maintained. To verify the tip-over analysis the strains and the accelerations acquired by the tip-over test were compared with those by the analyses. The results of the analysis were larger than the test results about two times.

A spent fuel storage cask is required to prove the safety of a canister under a hypothetical accidental drop condition. A hypothetical accidental drop condition means that a canister is assumed to be a lee drop on to a pad of the storage cask during loading it into a storage cask. A pad of the storage cask absorbs shock to maintain the structural integrities of a canister under a hypothetical accidental drop condition. In this paper a finite element analysis for various pad structures was carried out to improve the structural integrity of a canister under a hypothetical accidental drop condition. A pad of a storage cask was designed a steel structure with concrete. The 1/4 height of a pad was modified with a structure composed of a steel and a polyurethane foam as a impact limiter. The effect of a shape of a steel structure was studied. The effects of the thickness of a steel structure and the density of a polyurethane foam was also studied.

IAEA 및 국내의 방사성물질 운반 관련 규정에 따라 중 저준위 방사성폐기물 드럼 8개를 운반할 수 있는 IP-2형 운반용기를 개발하였다. IP-2형 운반용기는 낙하시험 및 적층시험을 거친 후 내용물의 유실 또는 분산과 운반용기 외부표면에서의 방사선량률이 20 % 이상 증가할 수 있는 차폐능력의 상실이 없어야 한다. 본 연구의 목적은 적층시험조건에 대한 시험방법 및 절차를 수립하고 IP-2형 운반용기의 적층조건에 대한 구조적 건전성을 평가하는데 있다. 운반용기의 원형시험모델을 이용하여 운반용기 중량의 5배 하중으로 24시간 동안 압축하는 적층조건에 대한 시험 및 전산해석을 수행하였다. 적층시험 시 운반용기의 모서리기둥에서의 변형률 및 변위를 측정하였으며, 측정된 변형률 및 변위는 해석결과와 서로 일치하였다. 컨테이너 바닥부의 처짐량은 측정이 어렵기 때문에 전산해석 방법으로 구하였다. 모서리기둥의 최대 변위와 컨테이너 바닥의 최대 처짐은 법규에서 규정하는 허용치에 비하여 낮게 나타났다. 적층시험 전 후에는 운반용기의 외형치수, 차폐체 두께, 볼트토크 등을 측정하였으며, 그 값들을 비교분석한 결과 운반용기는 내용물의 유실 및 분산, 차폐체 두께의 감소가 나타나지 않았다. 따라서 적층시험조건에서 IP-2형 운반용기의 구조적 건전성이 입증되었다. Radioactive waste transport package was developed to transport eight drums of low and intermediate level waste(LILW) in accordance with the IAEA and domestic related regulations. The package is classified with industrial package IP-2. IP-2 package is required to undergo a free drop test and a stacking test. After free drop and stacking tests, it should prevent the loss or dispersal of radioactive contents, and loss of shielding integrity which would result in more than 20 % increase in the radiation level at any external surface of the package. The objective of this study is to establish the safety test method and procedure for stacking test and to prove the structural integrities of the IP-2 package. Stacking test and analysis were performed with a compressive load equal to five times the weight of the package for a period of 24 hours using a full scale model. Strains and displacements were measured at the corner fitting of the package during the stacking test. The measured strains and displacements were compared with the analysis results, and there were good agreements. It is very difficult to measure the deflection at the container base, so the maximum deflection of the container base was calculated by the analysis method. The maximum displacement at the corner fitting and deflection at the container base were less than their allowable values. Dimensions of the test model, thickness of shielding material and bolt torque were measured before and after the stacking test. Throughout the stacking test, it was found that there were no loss or dispersal of radioactive contents and no loss of shielding integrity. Thus, the package was shown to comply with the requirements to maintain structural integrity under the stacking condition.
원자력발전소의 방사성폐기물 드럼 운반을 위한 볼트체결방식의 두꺼운 철판을 이용한 IP-2형 운반용기의 구조 안전성 해석 및 시험

If a type IP-2 transport package were to be subjected to a free drop test and a penetration test under the normal conditions of transport, it should prevent a loss or dispersal of the radioactive contents and a more than 20% increase in the maximum radiation level at any external surface of the package. In this paper, we suggested the analytic method to evaluate the structural safety of a type IP-2 transport package using a thick steel plate for a structure part and a bolt for tying a bolt. Using an analysis a loss or dispersal of the radioactive contents and a loss of shielding integrity were confirmed for two kinds of type IP-2 transport packages to transport radioactive waste drums from a waste facility to a temporary storage site in a nuclear power plant. Under the free drop condition the maximum average stress at the bolts and the maximum opening displacement of a lid were compared with the tensile stress of a bolt and the steps in a lid, which were made to avoid a streaming radiation in the shielding path, to evaluate a loss or dispersal of radioactive waste contents. Also a loss of shielding integrity was evaluated using the maximum decrease in a shielding thickness. To verify the impact dynamic analysis for free drop test condition and evaluate experimentally the safety of two kinds of type IP-2 transport packages, free drop tests were conducted with various drop directions. For the tests we examined the failure of bolts and the deformation of flange to evaluate a loss or dispersal of radioactive material and measured the shielding thickness using a ultrasonic thickness gauge to assess a loss of shielding integrity. The strains and accelerations acquired from tests were compared with those by analyses to verify the impact dynamic analysis. The analytic results were larger than the those of test so that the analysis showed the conservative results. Finally, we evaluated the safety of the type IP-2 transport package under the stacking test condition using a finite element analysis. Under the stacking test condition, the maximum Tresca stress of the shielding material was 1/3 of the yielding stress. Two kinds of a type IP-2 transport package were safe for the free drop test condition and the stacking test condition.

In robust design, the mean and variance of design performance are frequently used to measure the design performance and its robustness under uncertainties. In this paper, we present the Gauss-type quadrature formula as a rigorous method for mean and variance estimation involving arbitrary input distributions and further extend its use to robust design optimization. One dimensional Gauss-type quadrature formula are constructed from the input probability distributions and utilized in the construction of multidimensional quadrature formula such as the tensor product quadrature (TPQ) formula and the univariate dimension reduction (UDR) method. To improve the efficiency of using it for robust design optimization, a semi-analytic design sensitivity analysis with respect to the statistical moments is proposed. The proposed approach is applied to a simple bench mark problems and robust topology optimization of structures considering various types of uncertainty.

In this study, the effect of phosphorus flame retardants on the flame retardancy of the flexible polyurethane foam (PUF) was investigated. Tetramethylene bis(orthophosphorylurea) [TBPU] and phosphinyl alkylphosphate ester [CR-530], resorcinol bis diphenylphosphate [RDP], triethyl phosphate [TEP] were used as flame retardants. The results of thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) indicate that TBPU added PUF produces more charred residues than the other flame retardant added PUF. It was found that TBPU added PUF exhibits low mean heat release rate (HRR), peak HRR, effective heat of combusion (EHC), mass loss rate (MLR), CO yield and CO2 compared to those other flame retardants.
