        일측성 악하선 무형성 1예

        The congenital absence of the major salivary glands is an uncommon disorder, although it is not always symptomatic. Their etiopathogenesisis poorly understood. Aplasia of the salivary glands may occur either in isolation or in association with other developmentalabnormalities. Some authors have reported familial salivary gland aplasia. Aplasia may be partial or total. Severely affectedpatients suffer from dry mouth and an increased rate of dental decay. Following clinical exclusion of the cause of these symptoms,the diagnosis of submandibular gland aplasia can be confirmed by computed tomography and a Tc-99m pertechnate scintiscan.The authors experienced a case of incidentally detected, unilateral submandibular glandular aplasia in a 38-year old female. So wepresent this case with review of literatures. (Korean J Otolaryngol 2006;49:956-8)

      • Numerical optimization of an axial propeller runner for small-hydro power application

        The aim of the paper is to optimize the axial propeller turbine operating with a gross head of 3~6 m and flow rate of 10 ㎥/s. Three stages of optimization are executed for the turbine with the geometrical modifications by varying the number of runner blade, pitch angle and 3 different shapes of blade profiles. This study has attempted to acquire basic design data, viz., the output power, efficiency and pressure distribution to suggest the sound method of optimization. 3~5 blade, 25°~40° of pitch angle and NACA4306 and NACA4312, pump-based, thin foil blade profiles are examined to acquire the characteristics of performance. This study is executed through a commercial finite element analysis (FEA) package, ANSYS, and CFX. The results reveal the flow characteristics and suggest an optimizing method for axial propeller turbine.

        초, 중, 고교 교과서의 식품위생 내용 분석 연구

        A study on food sanitation in school textbooks was performed for 7 months from October 1, 1992 through may 31, 1993. A total of 243 textbooks (77 from elementary school level, 52 from junior high school level and 114 from senior high school level) were reviewed and analyzed. This study was performed in order to develop better method for teaching the subjet of food sanitation to students effectively. The results are as follows: 1) A total number of pages of textbooks dealing with food sanitation were 48 pages (0.53%) in elementary level textbooks, 38.05 pages (0.31%) in junior high school level and 105.05 pages (0.34%) in senior high school level. 2) 104.05 pages were allocated for the subject of food storage, 33 pages for insect and rodent control, 32 pages for food poisoning, 15 pages for food contamination and 7 pages for kitchen hygiene. 3) Of the four categories of textbooks, the numbr of pages dealing with food sanitation were 145 in home economics, 31 in physical education, 12 in social studies and 3.0 in science. 4) Home economics and physical education textbooks allocated many pages in dealing with food sanitation. Home economics textbooks had 88 pages for food storage, 26.05 pages for food poisoning, 7 pages for food contamination, and 2 pages for kitchen hygiene. Physical education textbooks had 15 pages about food storage, 4 pages for food poisoning, 5 pages for food contamination, and 1 page for kitchen hygiene. 5) Social studies textbooks had 5 pages for food storage, 4 pages for insect and rodent control, 3 pages for food contamination. 6) The number of pages dealing with food sanitation in elementary school level textbooks were 20 in physical education, 13 in home economics, 12 in social studies, 3 in science respectively. 7) The number of pages dealing with food sanitation in junior high school level textbooks were 31.05 in home economics, and 7.00 in physical education textbooks. 31.50 pages were about food storage, 6 pages about food poisoning, 13 pages about insect and rodent control, and 1 page about kitchen hygiene. 8) The number of pages dealing with food sanitation in senior high school level textbooks were 101.05 in home economics and 4 in physical education textbooks. 64 pages were about food storage, 21.05 about food poisoning, 13 about insect and rodent control, 4 about kitchen hygiene, and 3 about food contamination. 9) Pictures, drawings and tables were used in explaining food sanitation in the textbooks, 32 drawings of a total of 38 cuts in elementary school level textbooks, 8 pictures of 10 cuts in junior high school level and 13 tables of 14 cuts in senior high school level were used. 10) 5th grade textbooks of elementary school did not have a subject on food poisoning. Other grade textbooks in elementary school level did not contain a subject on food contamination and insect and rodent control. It's recommended that these subjects be contained in the textbooks. 11) It is necessary to teach a subject on health or health and environment independently and contain food sanitation in the subject. It is recommended that a textbook on health or health and environment be published and taught to students. 12) It is recommended that teachers specialized in health education be assigened to schools to teach health related subjects. 13) It is recommended that book publishers use the latest information in the textbooks and technical terms be unified.

        마늘성분이 Lard 와 Alcohol 을 섭취한 흰쥐 혈청중의 효소활성에 미치는 영향

        The present study has been undertaken to investigate the effects of garlic added to food on the activities of several enzymes in serum of rats fed lard and alcohol. Thirty-five males of Sprague-Dawley strains weighed about 130g were divided into 7 groups, each group receiving a different diet for 10 weeks; i.e. basal diet plus 15% lard, basal diet plus 5010 alcohol, basal diet plus 0.5% garlic, basal diet plus 15% lard and 0.5% garlic. Determinations were carried out on the net weight gain, food efficiency ratio, weight of organs, and AST, ALT, lactate dehydrogenase, alkaline phoaphatase activities in serum of rata. The results obtained were as follows: Rats given feed containing lard and alcohol showed significant decrease in net weight gain, but garlic caused an increase in food efficiency ratio. Lard supplementation caused an increase in the weight of liver, kidney, spleen, but another groups did not. AST, ALT, ALP, LDH of serum were significantly increased in lard and alcohol containing group but garlic feeding decreased enzyme activities compared to lard and alcohol containing group. The above results suggest that garlic would prevent the metabolic disease of liver by improving hyperlipemia caused by high fat diet.

        이하선에 발생한 악성 근상피종 1예_

        Myoepitheliomas of salivary gland occur infrequently and are generally benign. Malignant myoepitheliomas of salivary gland are extremely rare tumor, and increasing number of case reports have shown that malignant myoepitheliomas may either arise de novo or develop in a pre-existing pleomorphic adenoma. In our case, myoepitheliomas was located in the parotid gland, and tumor cells displayed morphological features of spindle & epithelioid cells. Their clinical behavior by literature seems variable. This case dealt with malignant myoepithelioma of the parotid gland in a 65-year-old man with a relatively favourable course, and was followed up for 2 years and 5 months. In addition, this case illustrates some of the characteristic clinical and pathological features of this rare tumor. (Korean J Otolaryngol 2006;49:349-52)

        안와 합병증을 동반한 전두동에 국한된 진균성 부비동염 1예

        The most commonly involved sinus of fungal infections is maxillary sinus, followed by sphenoid sinus and ethmoid sinus. On ecies of Aspergilus, dematiaceous fungi or zygomycetes; however, species of candida are rarely reported. In the invasive fungal sinusitis, orbital invasion, invasion and destruction of the skull base with a fungal meningitis, and fungal osteomyelitis with complete destruction of the maxilla have all ben reported. Although these ocurrences can not be explained, orbital complica-surgical removal. In the past, fungus ball of frontal sinus was approached externally; however, this has been largely replaced with the endonasal endoscopic technique. We experienced a case of frontal fungal sinusitis with orbital complication, which was sucesfuly treated by endonasal endoscopic frontal sinusotomy. In this paper, we report this case with a review of literature.
