Environmental chamber (EC) is an experimental facility used to analyze the characteristics of thermal response of testing objects by the artificial control of weather conditions. The EC in KIER can simulate the weather conditions by the control of temperature, humidity, and solar radiation. A two-storied testing building is located inside of EC. For the exact thermal response analysis of testing building, monthly or yearly scheduled operations are necessary. Although this long term operation gives the exact experimental data, it requires a high operational cost, long duration, and lots of manpower. Therefore it is necessary to perform the shortened experiments without sacrificing the validity of the obtained results. Since the characteristics of thermal response from the shortened experiments are different from the full time results, the analytical method to analyze the thermal response from the shortened experiments to estimate a full times results is developed in this study. The thermal response of testing building is performed using commercial software TRNSYS.

The reflection plate in twin-glass evacuated tube solar collector is controlled to reduce the overheat during the summer time. The sliding type and folding types are suggested and tested. The sliding type changes the plate angle and the folding type changes the opening angle of the reflection plate. By scattering the focus of the reflected radiation from the reflection plate, the temperature rise of the working fluid can be reduced. The sliding type shows the best results in overheat reduction. When solar radiation is 900W/m², the temperature rise in one sliding type collector is reduced about 2℃ compared to that of the normal solar collector. When this method is applied to seven series-collectors in the field, the reduction of temperature rise during the summer time should be significant.

A characteristic behavior of the thermal storage tank for varying thermal load in heat pump water heater was studied. The control method was suggested and applied. By measuring the temperature within the storage tank, the heat pump was ON/OFF controlled. The appropriate measuring position and the size of heat exchanger gives the minimized power consumption of heat pump. As the length of heat exchanger increases, the temperature measuring position goes down of the storage tank and the power consumption increases.

A numerical analysis is performed to predict the thermal response and ablation rate for charring or non-charring material which is designed to be used as thermal protection system (TPS). The numerical program composed of in-depth energy balance equation and the aerotherm chemical equilibrium (ACE) program. The ACE program calculates various thermochemical state from ablation products. The developed numerical program is verified by comparing the reported results from literature. The sensitivity tests for input parameters are performed. The thermal behavior of ablating material is mainly affected by density of ablating material, convective heat transfer coefficient and recovery enthalpy of flow field.
대체냉매 R436B를 적용한 정수기 냉각수 시스템 신뢰성 평가에 관한 연구

The alternative refrigerant R436B is applied, to assess the application feasibility for a commercial cooling water system. The characteristic stability was verified by Sealed glass tube test and Autoclave test. R436B is chemically stable with the compressor material. The Oil miscibility test shows the usual compressor oil mixed well with R436B. Through the life acceleration test, the cooling performance is maintained. Though slight changes in oil and capillary tube diameter were found, they were within the permitted range. R436B should be applied to commercial cooling water systems as a simple replacement for the usual refrigerant.
