Numerical study on the additional resistance due to bow thruster tunnels of shuttle tanker has been made using the FLUENT, the commercial flow solver. The effects of vertical location and scallop shapes were examined to reduce the bow thruster tunnel resistance. It is clearly shown that numerical simulation results show good agreement with towing tank experimental data. By the optimization of tunnel position and scallop shape, more than 2% of total EHP (effective horse power) can be reduced.
