There are several main antibacterial susceptibility tests, such as agar dilution method, broth dilution method and disk diffusion technique. Especially, for minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) test, agar dilution method has been widely used. But that method is so complicated and bothering that it`s difficult to treat a large amount of strains. On the other hand, modified broth dilution method(add 1% glucose and 0.018% phenol red as a pH indicator to broth) is fast and easy to perform. Most of all, it can visualize the result by color. The MICs of 22 antibiotics including penicillins, aminoglycosides, cephalothin, chloramphenicol, lincomycin, ceftiofur, vancomycin and quinolones, tetracyclines, erythromycin, colistin, sulfadimethoxine, trimethoprim for arcunobacterium pyogenes 14 strains, actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae 41 strains and pasteurella multocida 37 strains, which were collected from porcine during 1996-1999, were determined by modified broth dilution method. Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae was highly susceptible to all kinds of quinolones such as ciprofloxacin, enrofloxacin and norfioxacin and to all aminoglycosides, like gentamicin, apramycin, kanamycin and ampicillin, cephalothin and ceftiofur. But It was quite resistant to sulfadimethoxin, colistin and vancomycin. Pasteurella multocida was found to have high susceptibility to ampicillin, cephalothin, chlorampenicol and gentamicin but had mid-degree susceptibility to other aminoglycosides. In addition, it was susceptible to norfioxacin and nalidixic acid, but not to newer fluoroquinolone like ciprofloxacin and enrofloxacin and it was resistant to colistin and kanamycin. Arcrinobacteriu,n pyogenes was highly susceptible to most of quinolones such as ciprofloxacin, enrofloxacin and norfioxacin and gentamicin and penicillin G. But it also obtained high resistance against the early quinolone, nalidixic acid and aminoglycosides such as amikacin, aprarnycin and kanamycin and erythromycin, chiorampenicol, tetracyclin and vancomycin.

The study was performed to investigate the antibody distributions of 4 swine respiratory disease including M hyopneumoniae, P multocida, A pleuropneumoniae serotype 2 arid 5 in Daegu area by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA). 1. The overall sero-positive rates were 55.6% in June, 48.0% in August, 51.3% in October and 25.4% in November. 2. The positive reaction rates to M hyopneumoniae, P multocida, A pleuropneumoniae serotype 2 and 5 were found to be 50.0%, 36.5%, 55.0%, and 42.0% respectively. 3. The antibody titers were distributed on range 20~80 in M hyopneumoniae, 20~80 in P multocida, 160~640, 20~80 in A pleuropneumoniae serotype 2 and 5.

A survey of canine heartworm(Dirofilaria immitis) infections among dogs in Daegu area was performed from February 2000 to October 2002 using a microfilarial test and an antigen test(AGENtm Canine heartworm). The infection rate of 220 dogs(96 males, 124 females) was 23.2%(51/220) by the microfilarial test, but was 23.6%(52/220) by the antigen test, revealing that 1 of 52 antigen-positive dogs were microfilaria-negative in the peripheral blood. All dogs that were microfilaria-positive were also antigen-positive. The infection rates of heartworm in dogs at the age of <1, 1-3, 4-6, 7-11 and 12-15 years were 2.7%, 17.4%, 41.0%, 42.9% and 57.1%, respectively. Based on the fact that the antigen test is more accurate than the microfilaria test. The infection rates of heartworm in dogs by housing of indoor and outdoor were 6.9% and 46.4%, respectively. Based on the fact that outdoor housing is more infectious than indoor housing.
