모방을 통한 창작: 바로크 기악음악의 사실적 모방 사례 연구

본 논문은 르네상스 시대 동안 미메시스의 대상으로서의 자연, 또한 자연성과 예술성에 대한 논의가 심화되고 문학과 시각예술에서 모방에 관한 관심이 증대된 상황을 살펴보고, 이러한 지적, 문화적 유산을 전수한 바로크 작곡가들이 사실적 모방을 창작의 한 방법으로 활용하게 된 상황을 규명하였다. 바로크시대는 과학혁명으로부터 계몽주의 사조로 이어지는 시대로, 자연에 대한 세밀한 관찰과 연구를 근거로 하여 모상이나 예술 작품이 ‘인공적’이거나 ‘허구’라는 것을 인식하면서 감상하는 능력이 광범위하게 배양된 시기였다. 이러한 시대적 배경을 근거로 본 논문은 사실적 모방이 이 시기의 기악 독주곡 창작에 중요한 소재와 방법을 제공했음을 음악 사례들을 통해 살펴보았다. 작곡가들은 자연의 소리를 단순히 모방하는 데 그친 것이 아니라 그 소리를 선율적 주제나 표제의 소재로 삼아 특정한 구조, 장르, 양식, 정서적 내용 안에서 그 잠재력을 활용했던 것이다. This thesis considers the intellectual and cultural background that made Baroque composers exploit realistic imitation as an inspiration for creation, based on the increasing interest in imitation, nature as the model of mimesis, the original versus copy, and in naturalness versus artificiality since the Renaissance. The Baroque period, ranging from the Scientific Revolution to the Enlightenment, admired the art``s capability to employ nature as an expressive resource and cultivated the ability to recognize and enjoy a work of art as artificial and false. By examining examples of Baroque solo instrumental music, this thesis investigates how realistic imitation provided the contemporary composers with significant materials and ideas for creation. Composers were not satisfied with a mere imitation of natural sound through musical onomatopoeia, but they always tried to make the sound fit in a certain structure, style, genre, and emotive contents.

정치이데올로기와 음악비평: 푸치니 오페라 평가에서 드러난 이중적 잣대 분석

Apart from his sustaining international fame, Giacomo Puccini received contrasting criticism in Italy from the progressive nationalists and Mussolini`s fascism. In the early twentieth-century, Italy had underwent social upheavals and anxiety about the national identity before Benito Mussolini`s Fascist party came into power. During this period, Italian criticism of Puccini reflects generational conflicts over nationalism and internationalism, and over conservative and progressive values. Based on such a historical condition, this thesis investigates the way how political ideology such as Filippo Tommaso Marinetti`s Futurism and Italian Fascism influences music criticism and an artist`s achievement is used as a means of propaganda. Examples of critical narrative include the Futurist attack on Puccini and opera culture, commencing from ``futurist manifesto`` in 1909, and ideological conflicts surrounding the premiere of Puccini`s Turandot in 1926.

This thesis considers the relationship between music and science during the 17th century, the period of which is characterized as the term "the Scientific Revolution". In the chronology of music history, Baroque music has been cultivated by both speculative tradition and more practical empiricist approach. Based the situation of the coexisting old and new perspectives, I attempted to consider music in association with the contemporary scientific field. I maintain my focus on the contemporary empiricist approach and scientific development especially in acoustics and astronomy, and on the influence of the coexistent tendency of traditional and progressive methodology. Therefore I aim to investigate the concept of modernity and a change of way of thinking in the fields of music and science of the transitional period.

저분자량 수용성 키토산의 항균 활성에 관한 연구

항균제 대체제로 응용하기 위하여 다양한 저분자량 수용성 키토산(LMWSC; MW1, MW3, MW5, MW10)을 제조하였으며, 이들의 항균제 대체제 사용 가능여부와 그 작용 기작에 대하여 연구하였다. 먼저, 다양한 분자량 형태의 LMWSC를 이용하여 사람에게 유해한 각종 박테리아를 이용하여 항균효과를 확인하였고, 그 중 MW10의 항균효과가 가장 우수한 것으로 확인되었다. 그 반면 사람의 적혈구를 이용한 용혈활성 실험에서 독성을 나타내지 않았다. MW10의 항균 효과가 세균의 어느 부분에서 일어나는지 확인하기 위해 박테리아의 세포막 조건(PE/PG=7/3, w/w)으로 인공리포좀을 만들었고, 여기에 MW10을 처리한 결과 세균 막에서 항균효과를 나타냄을 추론할 수 있었다. Chitosan is a natural polymer derived from chitin that has been widely used as a dietary supplement and in a variety of pharmacological and biomedical applications. In addition, water-soluble chitosan has been used to enhance the stability of chitosan in water and reduce cytotoxic activity induced by acetic acid. In this study, the antibiotic activity and mechanism of low molecular weight water-soluble chitosan (LMWSC; MW1, MW3, MW5, and MW10) were examined in pathogenic bacteria cells and vesicles containing bacterial membrane lipids. MW10 displayed potent antibacterial activity against pathogenic bacteria strains and no cytotoxicity against mammalian cells. In addition, the degree of calcein leakage was examined as a function of lipid composition (PE/PG=7/3 w/w). The results of these experiments demonstrated that MW10 promoted leakage in negatively-charged membranes. Furthermore, confocal microscopy revealed that MW10 was located in the plasma membrane.

신화를 그린 작품 : 사이렌, 음악에 관한 욕망과 초월의 담화

본 논문은 사이렌 신화가 고대로부터 시공을 초월하여 지속적으로 언급되어 온주제라는 점에 초점을 맞추어, 이 주제를 둘러싼 다양한 분야의 문헌과 서술들을 살펴봄으로써 그 문화적 의미와 상징성을 규명하고 있다. 이와 함께 사이렌 신화가 시각적 이미지, 문학과 음악 예술의 작품으로 체현된 사례들을 살펴보았다. 사이렌은 물의 판타지에서 기원한 이래 신화, 종교, 예술, 사회학, 심리학, 정신분석학 등 다방면에 걸쳐 그 의미와 상징성이 추구되어 왔고, 감각 세계와 초월성 모두와 연관되어 있다. 사이렌의 노래는 에토스적인 관점에서 본다면 음악의 초월적인 힘을 부정적인 측면에서 제시하는 경향이 있다. 즉 들음에서 쾌락과 갈망이 자극되고 결국 그 댓가로 죽음과 파멸에 이르게 되는 것이다. 이 점에 있어 사이렌 신화는 음악 예술에서의 주된 신화적 소재인 오르페우스와 대조를 보이나, 음악의 감각적 위력과 초월성을 비등하게 제시한다는 점에서 예술가들은 이를 창조의 소재로 활용해 왔다. This thesis considers the cultural significance and symbolism of the Siren mythology by looking into various sources and narratives, based on the fact that this mythological subject has been continually discussed beyond time and space. It also exemplifies the relating visual images, and literary and musical works that capture the mythology. Siren originated from the watery fantasy and its cultural significance and symbolism has been pursued in various fields such as mythology, religion, arts, sociology, psychology, and psychoanalysis. It has been discussed in relation to both sensory world and transcendence. From the perspective of the ethos, Siren’s song tends to present the power of music in a negative way. In other words, hearing stimulates pleasure and longing, and ultimately costs destruction or death. In this regard, Siren contrasts with Orpheus, the major mythological character in musical art. However, artists have employed the Siren mythology as artistic inspiration, in that it equally projects sensory and transcendental power of music as in the Orpheus mythology.

비르투오소 담론 연구: 몸, 능력, 장애의 내러티브를 중심으로

이 연구는 연주자의 ‘몸’(Body)이라는 가시적이고 구체적인 매개에 초점을 맞추어 비르투오소의 본성에 접근하고 있다. 즉, 비르투오소의 육체적 ‘능력’의 측면들을 섭렵하는 한편 그 ‘능력’의 반대쪽에 있는 ‘장애’를 함께 다룸으로써 음악 예술에서의 비르투오소 현상을 규명해 본 것이다. 구체적으로 이 연구는 비르투오소 연주자에 관한 내러티브와 시각적 이미지로부터 이질적인 ‘몸’을 바라보는 시선, 예를 들어 괴물이나 비정상이라는 어휘 표현, 또는 체형, 손이나 손가락에 대한 묘사로부터 과잉이나 장애의 코드를 읽어내고, 몸이 보여주는 특별함과 다름의 주제를 통해 몸의 한계를 초월한 ‘능력’과 몸의 결함인 ‘장애’의 두 가지 양상을 중심으로 논의를 진행하였다. 또한 19세기 동안 성행했던 프릭쇼 문화를 조명함으로써 공연과 음악연주 분야에서의 몸을 바라보는 시선과 몸의 이질성에 관한 내러티브의 유사성을 추적해 볼 뿐 아니라, 비르투오시티와 장애에 연관된 왼손 피아노 문헌도 다루었다. 이처럼 몸의 내러티브에 초점을 두어 악보, 비평, 시각적 이미지의 사례 분석을 통해 이 연구는 비르투오소 주제에 대한 한 가지 접근법을 제시하고 있다. Discourse on virtuoso is connected with various musicological disciplines such as music history, aesthetics, sociology, and performance practice. Based on those disciplines, this thesis examines the subject of virtuoso through criticism, visual images, and analysis of piano music for left hand by maintaining focus on the medium of body. 19^th century descriptions and metaphors about body in caricatures and criticism of virtuoso performers show the perception and taste common in the popular entertainment culture, especially the freak show, and in virtuoso concerts. Virtuoso’s body became the source of the pleasure and imagination of the overwhelmed audience while looking, and the metaphor of monsters and deformities was a means of admiring the transcendental abilities of extraordinary body in terms of social norm or standard. From piano literature for left hand, it is possible to read how the technical demand for body is met under the condition of a lack of one hand. Left hand has been as much closely related to virtuosity as it was considered less capable than right hand, and the literature for left hand points to the visibility of transcending the limit of body or disability.

서양의 예술에 반영된 사이렌 내러티브

This thesis considers the cultural and artistic implications of the Siren mythology by looking into various narratives in literature and arts, with a special focus on the image of women and hearing . It also exemplifies the relating poem, visual images, and musical works of the Renaissance and modern era. Representing water spirits, the Sirens achieved cultural significance by the ancient authors such as Homer and Plato who invented concepts of the earthly and heavenly sirens. Based on these ancient sources, Renaissance authors cultivated various Siren narratives such as artistic talent and sensual seduction. Narratives of the Siren mythology has also engendered various symbolism and metaphors, which illustrates femininity relating to nature and sensory and transcendental power of singing and hearing. Moreover, some Siren narratives suggests the social position and self-consciousness of female musicians.
