Electric three-wheeled vehicles with motorization are progressively becoming the primary choice over three-wheeled vehicles with internal combustion engines in certain developing and underdeveloped countries. These motorized electric three-wheelers are designed with competitive pricing strategies to draw customer attention. To reduce material costs, a majority of these vehicles have their traction motors installed on rigid axles in shape of a cantilever. However, this design choice can lead to many quality issues, particularly due to fatigue destructions from vibrations. In this paper, I present a design process to develop robust motors that ranges from determining PSD values to motor validation, using the knowledge and experience gained from our product development endeavors.
