In conventional method of supporting soil shuttering wall during excavation a system of struts and walls to provide cross-lot bracing is common in trench excavations and other excavations of limited width. This method, however, becomes difficult and costly to be adopted for large excavations since heavily braced structural systems are required. Other expensive and unsafe situations are expected when temporary struts must be removed for the construction of underground structures. This paper introduces innovative strut systems which can be used as permanent underground structures after its role as brace system to resist earth pressure during excavation phase. Underground structural system suggested from architect is checked against the soil lateral pressures before the analysis of stresses developed from gravity loads. In this technology, retaining wall is installed first and excavation proceeds until the first level of bracing is reached. Braces used as struts during excavation will serve as permanent girders when buildings are in operation. Simultaneous construction of underground and superstructure can proceeds when excavation ends with the last level of braces being installed. These projects demonstrate that technology contributes to the speed as well as the economy involved in construction.

Generally hybrid beam is classified with embedded and exposure section types. Wide flange steel beam is completely covered by reinforced concrete for embedded hybrid beam. However, exposure hybrid beam connected with horizontal shear stud bolts at the interface of upper flange of wide steel beam and concrete slab. Even if embedded hybrid beam has many structural advantages, exposure hybrid beam is widely used because it can be easily constructed than embedded hybrid beam. There is one major environmental problem still existing for exposure hybrid beam that fire proofing protection process for wide flange beam is necessary. The purpose of this study is to evaluate structural capacity of MHS(Modularized Hybrid System) beam. MHS beam has many advantages such as easy construction, low beam depth, and fire resistance capacity etc. In this study, reduced effect of construction periods and cost of MHS structure were evaluated using actual structural design of a factory building. As a result, about 17% of construction period and cost could be reduced if MHS beam was used instead of RC and steel beam.

Environmental issues are concerned growingly in internal and external, therefore decreasing the volume of concrete form and increasing the recycling rate shall be materialized. In addition, the volume of support necessary for formwork shall also be reduced. In general, recycling rate of Euro form, a standardized plywood form, is expected to be reused up to 5 times. The study was intended to secure the semi-permanent recycling rate, using GFRP form, as well as to reduce the support accordingly. In the study, a factory-fabricated form was used for producing the full-sized beam, and the test for hanging the GFRP channel using wire was conducted. As GFRP is light-weight, it required fewer workforce than wooden form or standardized Euro form, and easy and simple form erection enabled to significantly reduce both the construction period and cost. And it’s an environment-friendly erection and removal method to prevent the construction wastes. The study was also aimed at evaluating the hanging method designed to minimize the supports in an attempt to reduce the use of temporary material such as wooden form and Euro form as well as to secure the work space. Therefore, the improvement leaded from the problem occurred in the process of concrete pouring and demolding was suggested.

The encased composite beam suggested in this paper consists of precast concrete, structural tees and cast-in-place concrete. To unify the behaviors of composite members, shear connectors were installed in the web and the flange of structural tees member respectively. There are no clear criteria available yet for estimation of shear connector quantity to be used in enclosed composite beam. To prevent construction costs from increasing for excessive design of shear connector and ensure rigidity of cross-section by unifying member behaviors, appropriate design for shear connector of encased composite beam is required. Therefore, this paper adopted the concept of shear flow and proposed design formula for dowel bar and stud in reference to required shear force.
