Peasant literature which has been written to date may be outlined as follows. First, it describes and represents both lives of farmers and the living conditions of the farming village. Second, it deals with the actualities of a farming village as faithfully as possible. Third, the writer describes and probes into the lives of the peasants or the realities of the farming village in connection with other factors. Fourth, it may be studied on the basis of historical consiousness and national identity of the writer in an attempt to recover the humanity of the peasants. For peasant novels in which the above characteristics are highly remarkable, I take examples such works as"Bin-Nong(貧農),by Seung-Se Chun","Am-So(암소), by Moon-Gu Lee", "Boon-Re-Ki(糞禮記), by Young-Ung Park","Mo-Re-Top-Yi-Ya-Ki(모래톱이야기), Soo-La-Do(修羅道), by Chung-Han Kim", "Cha-Ra-Kol-Bi-Ka(자랏골의 悲歌), by Kee-Sook Song","Sam-Gi-Kol(쌈짓골) by Choon-Bok Kim". By examining the world of consciousness which lies in the innermost reaches of the human mind carefully and faithfully, and at the same time attaining at a high literary level, the above works provide the raison d'etre of peasant literature in Korea.
