Experiment was carried out to study the heat transfer charcterisitics of a heat pipe with the evaporator section at the lower end for varying tilt angle. Results show that the overall thermal conductance of the heat pipe increases with higher tilt angle and higher heat transfer rate.

An analysis is made numerically of the thermal characteristics of the cooling and solidification process of continuous casting using finite difference method and the results are compared with the available experimental data for bloom of size 350 ×480mm and 270 ×400mm, which is currently produced at the company. Results show that the temperature distribution in bloom is affected much more by the withdrawal rate in the air cooling zone and by the specific water rate in the water cooling zone, while the solidification profile depends mainly on the withdrawal rate.
상변화를 갖는 다공물질내의 유동 및 열전달 특성에 관한 연구

An experimental investigation has been made to study the two-phase phenomena and heat transfer characteristics in porous media heated at the top and cooled at the bottom at one dimensional steady state. Experiment is conducted using glass beads and sand of mean diameter 0.9mm and 0.3mm respectively contained in a 22cm long, 5cm inner diameter Pyrex glass tube. Distilled water is used as a working fluid. Result of experiment shows that the two-phase zone is very sensitive to the system insulation and its length increases with the increasing heat flux, which is contrary to a pre-researcher. At this stage, this contradiction is supposed due to the variation of capillary pressure with the varying heat flux. The two·phase zone length of the lower permeability sand system is larger than that of the higher permeability system filled with glass beads. The total effective thermal conductivity of the system is enhanced with an increasing two phase zone length.

An experimental investigation was conducted to study the effect of surface roughness on condensation heat transfer characteristics of horizontal circular tube varying the roughness configurations. Eight pin-type finned-tubes were tested using the steam as a condensing substance. Sharp fin-shaped tube shows higher overall heat transfer coefficient, heat transfer rate and tube outside heat transfer coefficient based on the outer surface area of the smooth tube than the blunt one. In addition, the lower the fin height, and the wider the fin pitch, the higher the overall heat transfer coefficient, heat transfer rate and the tube outside-heat transfer coefficient. Globally varying the fin shape and fin pitch showed larger influence on the condensation heat transfer characteristics than the fin height variation.
