The rhizoma of Polyonatum odoratum(Liliaceae) promotes the production of body fluid and relives dryness symptoms and has hypoglycemic effect. In order to evaluate the prevention of lipid peroxidative efficacy of P.odoratum, its extracts (Et2O and MeOH ex.) and its fractions (H2O, 20% MeOH,40% MeOH, 60% MeOH and 100% MeOH fr.) were measured by TBARS assay on rat liver 59 and human erythrofrte ghost membrane. The order of anti-lipid peroxidative effect was as follows : Et2O ex. >40% MeOH fr. >60% MeOH fr. >100% MeOH fr. Based on these results, we conclude that mombrane lipid peroxidation is inhibited iu yifrp by addition of P.odoratum Ether extract and its gradient MeOH fractions excepts H2O fr, and which have significant hepatoprotective activity in CC14-treated rats.

Houttuynia cordate (Saururaceae) has pungent smell and taste. It has been regarded as detoxicant, antipyretic, antiinflammantory and diuretic agents. In order to evaluate antioxidative and anticipidperoxidative efficacies, its fractions (H2O, 20% MeOH, 40% MeOH, 67% MeOH, 100% MeOH) were measured by DPPH method and TBARS assay on rat liver homogenate. It was revealed that 60% MeOH fractions had potential antioxidative activity and inhibited lipid peroxidation signiacantly; In active fractions, we isolated rutin, hyperin, quercitrin and quercetin.

In order to evaluate of its fractions (H₂O, 20% MeOH, 40% MeOH, 60% MeOH, 100% MeOH) on low-density lipoprotein oxidation, mobility by electrophoresis and LDL lipid peroxidation by TBARS were measured. Except the water fraction, they showed inhibiton on electrophoetic mobility and all fractions revealed the antilipid peroxidation. From the active fractions, we isolated rutin, hyperin, quercitrin and quercetin.
