The house of the China Korean ethnic group in the countryside, kitchen is one of the most important rooms, which works for cooking, warming, and storage. Besides, it has some complementary functions such as washing and showering. The spatial structure of the kitchen is divided into three types, 'jeongji', 'walkway' and 'independent' one. Those houses which are near Korea peninsula mainly belong to the 'jeongji' type; whereas those houses which are in the inland of Jilin, Heilongjiang and Liaoning Provinces mainly are 'walkway' and 'independent' types. The main constituents of the kitchen include pots and pans, water supply and sewerage, fuel and storage etc. The differences among these constituents lead to the geographic differences in the aspect of cooking method and dietary culture, and finally the different kitchen spatial characters are manifested.

This paper studies the process of formation and evolution of “Litian” village, a Chinese Korean natural village along the Yalu River. Through the investigation, aspects like spatial forms, road systems, land-use conditions, demographic composition and evolution are analyzed. The conclusions are: 1) “Litian” village was built up by the slash-and-burn farmers in the Korean Peninsula who migrated to the vicinity of Yalu river. Therefore, the village manifested the features of traditional Chinese Korean villages in the Korean Peninsula-with hills behind and lakes in front of the house. 2) With the growth of population, in “Litian” village, residential high-density phenomenon occurred; moreover, changes happened also in the demographic composition, the orientation of the house, road systems and the spatial forms. Specifically speaking, house tended to face south; residential spatial features of Han ethnics emerged; the cul-de-sac in the front of the residence was formed. In spite of these changes, “Litian” village still maintains the traditional residential patterns on the whole.
