This study presents experimental results on the shut-down and start-up characteristics of a residential split-system air-conditioner with capillary tube, using R410A as a R22 alternative refrigerant. During shut-down, the transient characteristics are evaluated by measuring the high side and low side pressures and temperatures of the system. The dynamic behavior of the system after start-up is also investigated at the high temperature cooling test condition. All experiments are performed in psychrometric calorimeter. The cooling capacity, power consumption, dehumidification capacity and cycle characteristics after start-up are analyzed.

This paper presents computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis on passenger thermal comfort in a train. Human thermal comfort in vehicles depends mainly on air temperature, mean radiant temperature, air velocity, humidity, and direct solar flux, as well as the level of activity and thermal properties of clothing and seat. The velocity and temperature distribution in a train with and without passengers are reported. The thermal comfort in a passenger train are also presented based on PMV and PPD indices with 16 segments of the human body.

The performance evaluation of a residential split system inverter air-conditioner has been conducted analytically and experimentally at different system operating conditions. A simulation program for modelling an air-conditioning system which consists of a compressor, a condenser, a capillary tube, an evaporator and related attachments was developed on the basis of the Oak Ridge heat pump design model, MARK III. The accuracy of the simulation results for the compressor frequencies of 32, 68 and 79 Hz for the residential split system inverter air-conditioner has been estimated by comparing calculation results to the experimental data and parametric study has been performed to investigate the effect of design parameters and operation conditions on the system performance.
